Gary Rohr Obituary

Gary Lee Rohr
October 10, 1945 - February 11, 2018

Gary fought a courageous 22-month battle with cancer. He went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2018. Gary was born and raised in Hays, Kansas, where he graduated from Hays High School in 1963 and later moved to Colorado before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Second Class. During his years in the Navy, he met and married Marilyn Sleight. That union brought forth two sons. Gary then attended Long Beach City College and worked as an electrician's apprentice. He later was hired by Prudential Insurance, which relocated him to Bakersfield, CA. He earned many citations and excelled during his 24-year career with the company and retired as a successful executive. After retirement, Gary married Julia Rohr, and they enjoyed 17 years of marriage together. Their union blended two families that included three stepchildren and six grandchildren. Gary continued to pursue new ventures long after retirement, which led him to begin a career as a licensed Public Adjuster. He was very involved with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and served as the Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus organization. He enjoyed golf and spending time with family and friends. Gary helped many people during his lifetime, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Rohr II; his brother and best friend, Rick Rohr; and parents, Harold Rohr and Evelyn Younger. Gary is survived by his son, Joshua Rohr (Virginia); grandson, Lukas Rohr; his loving wife, Julia Rohr; brothers, Harry and Larry Rohr; sister, Jackie Stremel; stepchildren, Shawna Dulan (Ronnie), Chad Spear (Erin), and Megan Spear. Grandchildren include Haley, Pollie, and Abigale Dulan, Liam, Lillian, and Landon Spear.
