Ismael Perez "Smiley" January 5, 1934 - March 31, 2010 Visitation for Ismael Perez "Smiley" will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) Reception will follow at St. Joseph's Hall (1515 Baker Street) Ismael is survived by his wife of 36 years of marriage, Maria Raquel Perez; sons, James Perez, Smiley Jr. Perez and wife Chris, Manuel Perez and Peter Perez; daughters, Yolanda Welch and husband Bill, "Molly" Amalia Perez, Mimi Rodriguez and husband Tony, Marina Lerma and husband Bob, Angie White and husband Michael as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ismael is also survived by his brother, George Perez; sisters, Elenor Perez, Mary Blackhawk and husband Floyd, Rachel Aguirre, Lupe Perez and husband Jose, Lucy Gonzalez and husband Joe; sisters-in-law, Alejandra Perez, Flora Perez and Tillie Perez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ismael will be reunited in death with his parents, Manuel Perez and Maria de Jesus Perez; his grandchildren, Fernando Perez and Hector Jr. Ibarra; his brothers, Charlie Perez, Rueben Perez, Alfred Perez and Aurelio Perez; nieces, Rose Marie Thomas and Debra Padilla. Ismael passed away on March 31, 2010 at his home in Bakersfield. Ismael was born on January 5, 1934 in Bakersfield to Maria de Jesus Perez and Manuel Perez. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe School and Bakersfield High School. Ismael had worked as a truck driver until being diagnosed with Heart Disease. His favorite place to dine in was the Arizona Café and the old Farmer John Pancake House. He loved to listen to Mariachi, Spanish and Country Music. His old time favorite singers were Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete. Ismael loved to be with family and friends especially coming from a family of ten brothers and sisters. His wife Maria Raquel and family wish to thank the staff at Odyssey Hospice, Maria Cuevas, JR Moreno and Sandra Figueroa.
