James Clifton Barry

1941 - 2010

James Clifton Barry January 28, 1941 - January 11, 2010 James was born in Pascola, Missouri on January 28, 1941 to Charles and Lois Barry. James lived in Pascola until 1951 until the family moved to Lamont, CA, where he attended Mountain View Jr. High, and graduated from Arvin High in 1958. He graduated from Bakersfield College with an AA in Industrial Arts in 1960. James met the love of his life, Susann Traynor at a BC football game in September 1960. They were married August 1961. James was an electrician and proud member of the IBEW Local 428 since 1964. On December 8, 1988 he had a worksite accident where he suffered a broken neck and became a quadriplegic. James loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and was a long time member of the Bakersfield 2nd Ward. In his younger years he loved to serve others and the Church. He served many years and loved the Boy Scouts. He was the timekeeper for the BC football games until his accident in 1988. He loved to tinker in the garage and make what his wife told him to. He could fix anything. James is preceded in death by his wife, Susann Barry, daughter Kim Barry, and his parents. He is survived by his son, David Barry (wife Vanessa), grandchildren, Nick, Whitney, and Chad, brother, Randy Barry (wife Roxanne), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation is from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Hillcrest Mortuary. Services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (316 A St.).
