Nov. 27, 1948 Mar. 8, 2003
Jerry was born in Taft, California, on November 27, 1948, along with his twin sister, Judy, to Herschel and Gertrude Young. He grew up in Taft schools and attended Taft College. Jerry was a great track athlete, excelling in the high jump. He loved to work on bicycles and had a knack for perfection in everything he touched. He was a shy man whose sense of humor was special.
His last year was spent improving his work skills at Employers Training Resource with the kind aid of Lisa Craig. He especially enjoyed his math classes. His work training with Jim Jimenez and the maintenance crew at the courthouse was a job he cherished. He also enjoyed family, friends at Tegeler House and sharing laughter with his grandchildren. This was a special time for Jerry, and our family wants to thank all of those who gave him opportunity and friendship and let you know how much Jerry appreciated you. He was walking tall with a smile on his face.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Gertrude Young; son, Eddie Hopper and wife, Denita; sister, Sarah Keel; brother, Willard Young; twin sister, Judy Wright and her husband, Dave; grandchildren, Eddie, Summer, Austin and Winter and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel Young. We will miss you dearly our brother.
Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, March 17, 2003, at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Kern Canyon Road. After entering gate, turn right and follow road to gravesite on right.
A dinner will be held at a family home after the services to share memories of Jerry.
