Beloved sister and aunt, Katharine Grubbs-Hershey passed away at the age of 98. She was the fourth of nine children born to Hans and Christiana Hansen in Salina, Kansas. She grew up in Salina, moving first to Witchita, Kansas, and then to Bakersfield. In Bakersfield, she worked for the Bureau of Land Management and participated in the Eastern Star at the local and state level holding several offices. She also met and married Louis Grubbs and had many years of traveling together before his death. She eventually met and married Roy Hershey of Madera, CA, moving yet again. After his death, she made her final move back to Bakersfield, where she stayed for the rest of her life. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
Her siblings that preceded her in death are Thomas Hansen, William Hansen, Agnes Farrar, and Genieve Pierce. She is survived by Alan and his wife, Colleen Hansen, John Hansen of Bakersfield, and Clara and her husband, Leroy McMichael of Santa Barbara; her 12 nieces and nephews and 25 grand-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 18, at 1:30 p.m., in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation continues this morning at 9:00 a.m.
