Luis Valenzuela Obituary

Luis Payen Valenzuela November 10, 1961- January 15, 2010 Visitation for Luis P. Valenzuela will be on Thursday, January 21, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Lamont, CA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Friday, January 22, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Luis was born in Levelland, Texas, in 1961, to Raul and Irma Valenzuela. He grew up in Lamont, California, where he attended all the local elementary schools. He graduated from Arvin High School in 1979, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree from Fresno State University. He soon began his career as a draftsman, and went on to form Icon Construction Company, in 1996. His construction company's most recent work was the restoration of the Arvin High gym. Luis was an avid baseball fan, and enjoyed watching his son play college ball, often volunteering for many coaching spots for the youth leagues. Luis served as a board member at Garces Memorial, and was an active member of the Kern County Builder's Exchange, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Luis is survived by his parents, Raul and Irma Valenzuela; his wife, Maria; son, Jacob; daughter, Elisa and son- in-law Jason; granddaughter, Annelyse Chanel Carmona; his brother, Raul P. Valenzuela and sister -in-law Angelina; sister, Martha Valenzuela-Rincon and brother-in-law Oscar; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. Luis will always be remembered dearly as "Dad, Papa Icon, Mr. Luis, and Negro". The day of his passing was coincidentally his 26th wedding anniversary, and he expressed to his wife Maria, that all of his wishes had come true in life. His family and friends will miss Luis. Rest in peace, Luis Valenzuela. Mission Family Mortuary www.bakersfield.com

Mary, Elisa, and Jake -
I'm going to miss our tailgate parties where we would listen to spanish ballads and argue about baseball :-) I can't be there for the service, but you will be in my thoughts.

Maria (my former schoolmate and friend) Jacob and Elisa - During the replacement of the AHS gym roof and skylights, I had a opportunity to sit and talk to Luis. We recalled that we sat next to each other at the Class of '77 20th reunion. He told me he was so proud of each of you and what you were doing and was thrilled with his grandaughter. He loved the fact that his wife was his business partner. We had a wonderful conversation and I was very proud that an AHS alum was lovingly working on our beautiful gym. Please receive heartfelt condolences from me, the AHS staff and the KHSD staff that also worked on the gym project. My heart goes out to you, as do my prayers. Que Dios los bendiga.

Valenzuela Family:

My sincerest condolences to you all. Each time Luis and I spoke, it always evolved around Family, Faith, Hard Work, Education and Baseball! Not necessarily in that particular order! :) May you find comfort in God's Promise of Eternal Life and Joy.
