MARGARET (PEGGY) ELDRED RABEY
January 24, 1928 – November 2, 2025
Margaret Eldred Rabey passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on November 2, 2025, in Bakersfield, California. She was born to Nelson Beardsley Eldred Jr. and Charlot White Eldred on January 24, 1928, in Boston, Massachusetts. She had a brother, Nelson Beardsley Eldred III.
Peggy lived in Massachusetts, Michigan, and New York State before moving to Dallas, Texas, in 1940. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Texas in 1945. She then attended Christian College (now known as Columbia College) in Columbia, Missouri, where she was a member of the honor society Alpha Pi Epsilon.
Peggy married Theodore (Ted) Warren Rabey on September 19, 1946, in Greenville, Texas, before moving to California. She and Ted had four children, Marcia Elaine, Theodore Warren Jr., Sandra Jean, and George Alan Rabey, who were born in Northern California and raised in Bakersfield. Peggy worked for Kern County Veterans Service Department and later for Kern County Juvenile Probation Department as a legal stenographer. She retired in 1978.
Peggy cherished summers at Squirrel Island, Maine, throughout her childhood. Later, when her daughters were young, she was involved with Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed camping with her family for years, as well as traveling, swimming, tennis, golf, and reading. She also enjoyed her workouts and friends at the gym into her 90s. Frequent family reunions were especially meaningful to her.
Raising her four children and seeing them grow into responsible and successful adults was the highlight of Peggy's life. Enjoying her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren was an added gift.
Peggy is survived by daughter Marcia Ginn-Tofflemire and husband John Tofflemire; son Theodore Warren Rabey Jr. and wife Donna; daughter Sandra Jean Weisel; son George Alan Rabey and wife Jennifer; seven grandchildren – Kristine Henderson, Michael Ginn, Todd Rabey, Michelle Fuller, James Weisel, Shelley Weisel, and Eric Rabey; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nephew Charles Eldred and wife Linda; great-niece Jennifer Carr; and great-nephew Stephen Eldred.
Peggy will be laid to rest with Ted, her husband of 70 years, in the Bakersfield National Cemetery.
