MARILYN JETT

April 5, 1942 – March 26, 2025

Bakersfield – Marilyn Jett, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Bakersfield, California.

The oldest of eight children, Marilyn was born in Bakersfield, California, on April 5, 1942, to James Thomas Franey and Dorthy Mary Ross.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother James F. Franey, and sister Mary Teresa Franey. Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Andy (Big Cabin, Oklahoma), his children Kannon and Ainsley, and Shane (Bakersfield, California), Shane's wife Jennifer, and their sons Tennyson, Kelden, Dempsey, Silas, Marshall, and Beckett. Marilyn is also survived by her sister Kathleen Webdell and husband Jim, brother Phil Franey and wife Dina, brother Richard Franey and his wife Kari, brother Dennis Franey and wife Melissa, and brother John Franey.

After graduating from Garces Memorial High School in 1960, Marilyn earned nursing degrees from Bakersfield College and Holy Names University, and worked as a registered nurse and case manager for 43 years, serving both Mercy and Memorial hospitals in Bakersfield. Marilyn cared for countless lives, her vivacious personality providing comfort and strength in times of uncertainty. A true people person with a profound compassion and commitment to uplifting others, Marilyn volunteered her time after retirement at St. Vincent de Paul Society, local hospitals and schools, remaining a source of hope and support for everyone she encountered. Marilyn was devoted to all eight of her grandchildren, avidly participating in school events, birthdays, and holidays, feeling great pride and love watching them grow. Marilyn loved traveling, bike rides, walks, and especially family gatherings where she exhaustedly tried to keep her siblings ("the boys") in line! Marilyn was an extremely hard-working mother and made many sacrifices to provide for her boys, and was very proud of their accomplishments. Marilyn's legacy lives on in the warmth she shared and the countless ways she touched the lives around her.

Marilyn's life will be celebrated at a memorial mass at 10 am on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Bakersfield, California.

I´m just now seeing this and I´m so very sad... Marilyn was my boss way back in the late 70s and the dialysis unit when Mercy had a dialysis unit she was everything her obituary says she was very caring. She had a good sense of humor and she was very vivacious... It´s just really hard even though I know we´re all elderly at this point, but it´s still really difficult to read this... My absolute best to her family.

Dear sweet Marilyn, who I met when we both were working at Mercy Hospital downtown. She was like a bright light for anyone who met her. I am saddened to hear of her passing, but will hold memories I have forever especially when I had her over for lunch. RIP, my dear friend.

I loved Marilyn and was so happy to work with her at Memorial Hospital. Got to know her better as I was young when she was married to my uncle but got to know her more during our employment. I´m in Idaho visiting my son or I would have attended her mass. I´m sure she will be missed by all her sweet sons and grandchildren. Rest in peace sweet aunt! Mary Ellen Sakowski Thomas
