MARJORIE GRANHEIM
November 15, 1947 June 11, 2022
With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful Marjorie (Margie), a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. After a two-year courageous battle with multiple illnesses, she left us peacefully at her residence in Bakersfield with her loving husband of 54 years, Jimmy, by her side, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 11, 2022. She was 74.
Margie was the beloved mother of Angela (Devin) and Kimberly (Tommy), proud grandmother of Shae (Corinna), Mikayla, and Eva, and great-grandmother of Tyson, Trent, Leo, James, and Grace. Predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Cecelia Sexton, and her brother, Wayne Sexton.
Margie was born and raised in Long Beach, CA. After high school she attended Long Beach City College. It was during this time she met Jimmy on a blind date, who was in the Navy and stationed in Long Beach. After Jimmy's service commitment ended, they married, and moved to North Dakota to live near the college Jimmy attended. It was there that that they started their family. Over the years they were back and forth from North Dakota to California before finally settling in Bakersfield in the late 80s. Margie worked for Panama Buena Vista School District and retired after 30+ years with the District. She leaves behind many cherished friends.
In her free time, Margie loved to cook. Her expertise was Italian. She was a naturally talented musician and she loved singing, playing the piano, and writing her own music. She was gifted with a green thumb, with a yard full of beautiful roses, plants and many other flowers, gardening was one of her great passions and you could always find her out back tending to her green babies. She was athletic and for many years she taught indoor cycling at one of the gyms and rode and raced with the Kern Wheelman in the 90s. She loved cats and had many as pets of her own and a number that she fed and cared for that didn't belong to her at all. Lovingly, she was our "Crazy Cat Lady". Blessed with a servant's heart, she was always the first to help others in need with a loving smile. And...as much as she loved all of this, mostly and above all else, she loved Jesus and it showed in EVERYTHING she did. She loved praying for others and offering encouragement and comfort in difficult times and it was all in the name of her Savior.
She was truly beautiful inside and out and until we are reunited with her in heaven, she will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Margie's life will be held at the local Fi
