Mark Luttrell Obituary

MARK DOUGLAS LUTTRELL

April 14, 1957 – June 18, 2024

Bakersfield – Mark Douglas Luttrell passed away at the age of 67 on June 18, 2024.

Mark was born in Bakersfield, CA to his loving and devoted parents, Leland and Carolyn Luttrell. He grew up attending local schools - he always remained a proud E.B. Blade. He received his A.A. from Bakersfield College and his B.A. from Cal State Bakersfield. Using his degrees, he worked in broadcasting and also in journalism writing for local magazines. He also worked at the family business, Luttrell's Auto Parts.

Much of Mark's time was spent in community service. One of his most loved organizations was the Bakersfield - Wakayama Sister City Project. He made numerous friends and believed in the idea of promoting peace with international friendships. He touched many lives - far more than he ever realized.

Mark has long been admired for his determination, courage, loving nature, and ability to find the good in all circumstances. He lived his life with a a strong faith in God and was a true example of Christian love.

He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sisters Susan (Bob) Dunlap and Laura (Jeff) Gaines, and his uncle, Paul Randour. He also leaves behind his loving nieces and nephews Chelsea (Dusty), Tyler (Jasmine), Meagan, Austin, Cole, and Ashton. He was an outstanding person who was always there to encourage, support, and root everyone on.

Mark was blessed with many friends, but the family wants to give special thanks to his life-long friend, Tom Saba. Audrey Hepburn's quote sums it up beautifully - "True friends are families you can select."

A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest on July 5, 2024 at 9:00 AM.

Mark and I grew up together on the same street. We were constantly at one another´s house riding stick horses or shooting baskets. We last visited in May 2024. Mark´s soul is one that can never be forgotten. Such a dear and wonderful friend.

I just learned the sad news of Mark´s passing. He was an unforgettable person...kind, gracious and caring. I came to know Mark when we both worked in Bakersfield radio in the late 1970s. Over the many years and despite the distance that separated us, we kept in touch, although I wish I´d been better at this. Mark was a pleasure to know. His knowledge about broadcasting in Bakersfield was encyclopedic. I will miss those wonderful exchanges we had. I´m honored to have known him. People like Mark do not come often. He was a gift to all who knew him. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Mark And I graduated from Eb HS in 1975.We first met at Compton junior high. I loved Mark's kindness, his positiveness and his steady pace.
My boss had the opportunity to meet him and he'd recognize them when out and about on the east side of town.
I'd see him and his dad at Cindy's Cafe have lunch or dinner.
Although we didn't stay in consistent touch with him, I will miss his genuine smile and the Christ glow he carried...
Race well run Mark, you have kept the faith earned your crown.

A friend just informed me today that Mark had passed away. I have known Mark all my life. We were less than a month apart. Most of my memories w/ Mark was at family functions, especially at the Burrage home. He loved to be involved in any event and maintaining a very positive attitude pending the outcome of the game/s.
He definitely reminded me that he was a Blade. However, he had an appreciation for the Highland Scots too. When my career started at Highland as the Agriculture Instructor, Mark was always wanting to know about what changes I was implementing in the program. When my boys were playing football, he wanted to be updated on their progress. Wishing them well... unless it was against the Blades. When his nephew and niece were enrolled in the program, he wanted to know what they were doing too.
I knew Mark as a very humble, caring individual who just embraced life and loved being around friends and family.
You have departed good friend, but you left some wonderful memories that will always be with me.

What a pleasure to have known Mark. I met Mark though Tom Saba about 31 years ago. I would often run into Mark at various events and in the community. I always enjoyed having a great converstation with Mark. He will truly be missed. My prayers are with your family.
