Mary Alice (Catland) Frady June 9, 1920 - September 29, 2011 Mary Alice Frady, 91, of Bakersfield, Ca, (formally of Studio City, California) went home to our Lord surrounded by family and loved ones. Mary Alice was born to Ella and Raymond Catland in Los Angeles, Ca. Mary married Erle Hall Frady Jr. on August 18, 1942, raised 4 children and shared 51 wonderful years together. At the time of Mary's passing she had 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. After their children were almost grown, Mary opened her own business, Mary's Fashions in Studio City. Mary was known as an elegant lady and took pride in purchasing fashions that helped other women look beautiful. Her attention to detail and her desire to help others made her store a popular place for the women of Studio City. Mary was very active in Las Vecinas, a ladies organization to raise money to support needy children. She was also extremely proud of her membership and participation in the Republican's Women Club and spent many years working as an election precinct worker. Mary loved playing bridge and spent many days playing with her multitude of friends. Mary and Erle traveled many places throughout the world, when Erle was serving in the Army and later traveling with many friends. Erle was an excellent golfer and after their retirement, Mary joined him and became passionate about the sport herself. They moved from their home in Studio City to Rancho Mirage and built a second home in Stallion Springs. They enjoyed many years of golfing, entertaining and friendship wherever they were, before Erle's passing in 1993. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and daughter. She cared for her own mother diligently for 30 years and then her mother-in-law later in life. She was an outstanding cook and her children always knew when they came home after school that the family home would greet them with warm and delicious smells and cuisine. Mary kept a beautiful home but truly enjoyed her time in her garden. She loved to "borrow" little clippings from neighbor's plants to start a plant in her garden and then rejoiced as she would watch it grow and bloom. Mary was a beautiful seamstress and took pride in the many dresses that she made for her daughters and herself. Mary was a loving wife and always showed her love for Erle in everything she did, cooking, cleaning, golfing, and most memorable for her kids, their beautiful dancing partnership. You could always know that Mary and Erle were on the dance floor when the party got quiet and people started watching the two of them twirl and spin and then eventually Erle's famous dip of his partner, which made her face light up with joy. When the time came for Mary to leave Rancho Mirage and mover closer to one of her children she chose Bakersfield and the lovely facility of Glenwood Gardens. She quickly made many friends, whom she cherished deeply. Mary had her place at the head of a table in the dining room and loved to tell stories and command the conversation. Her special friends, including Almedia, Hazel, Helen, Trudy, Rosie, Opal and Elnora, will always have a place in the family's hearts for being such wonderful friends to Mary. Mary had a deep faith and a loving relationship with Jesus. She was a proud Presbyterian and was a member of many churches throughout her life, wherever she resided. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Erle, her sister Margie and her beloved grandson Donald. Mary is survived by her children Dennis and Carol Frady, Ronald and Kathy Frady, Kathleen and Bill Snow and Carrie and Bill Jager. In addition she leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Tricia Frady, Kristyn and Joe Coburn, Jeffrey Frady, Alison Frady, Danielle Frady, Zachary and Ellen Snow, Bethany Snow, Jessica Duncan, Megan and Josh Gregor and Molly Jager as well as 8 great- grandchildren. Some of the best memories in her last few months were watching Mary with her 3 youngest great-grandchildren, the twins Adam and Charlotte Snow and Reilly Gregor. Mary would ask for the babies to be brought to see her and then chuckle with delight as they shared her chair or laid on her bed with her. She was heard to whisper to them that she would take them to beautiful golf courses some day. A memorial service will be held at Glenwood Gardens at 10:00am on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Following the service the family will have a graveside burial at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills later in the afternoon. The family wishes to thank Glenwood Gardens and Hoffmann Hospice, particularly Roz, Cindy and Janelle for their guidance and caring. Also, Mary's caretaker for several months, Janet Tello whose caring attention is so appreciated. In addition the staff from Around the Clock, Claudia, Patty, Destiny and Karen for their loving, daily care of our mom and grandmother. Memorial donations may be made in Mary's memory to The
American Cancer Society.
