Mildred (Millie) Bernice Boyd September 4, 1913 - May 10, 2012 Mildred (Millie) Bernice Boyd, oldest child and only daughter of Josephine and John Graham, was born in Taft, California on September 4th 1913. Although she and her seven brothers, Roy, Doug, Jay, Jack, Donald, John and Jimmy Graham, spent much of their childhood in Texas, the family returned to Taft in time for Millie to graduate high school. She then married her high school sweetheart, Chalmer Walker, and their daughter Patricia Ann was born in December of 1932. This marriage didn't last and Millie became a single parent, supporting herself and her daughter for many years as the owner and operator of Walker Studios. It was here she met her future husband when a single father, Tyrus Boyd, came in to be photographed with his daughter Sherri Lynn before leaving to fight in WWII. They met again upon his return from the war and they were married on June 8th, 1946. In the following years, they built a successful business and raised their two daughters together. Their's was a long and happy union lasting 62 years until Tye's death in 2008. Millie was an active member of many social organizations including Eastern Star, the Episilon Beta of Sigma Alpha Sorority and the North of the River Women's Club. She belonged to the Church on Olive Drive for many years and was also a member of the Antique Automobiles Club of Kern County. Millie and her husband Tye loved to travel, especially as part of a group and they also loved to entertain at home. Millie was known for both her hospitality and her skill in the kitchen. She was also an avid and highly skilled Bridge player. Millie will be greatly missed by her family including her daughter Sherri Wilson, her former son-in-law Michael Wilson, their three daughters, Natalie and her husband David Bundy, Elizabeth and her husband Tim Lister and Shelby Wilson as well as Natalie's children Meagan and Madison Rizer, and Tyler Brown, his wife, Candace and their daughter Mattox. And, by her daughter Patricia's four children, Deborah Seymour and her son Colin, Gary Odegaard and his two daughters Erin and Andrea, David Odegaard and his wife Phyllis and Jay Odegaard. Visitation will be held at 9:00am followed by services at 10:00am on Monday, May 14th at Hillcrest Cemetery. www.bakersfield.com/obits
