Norman Edgar Wiles
May 11, 1932 - July 18, 2017
Born in Portland, Oregon to Chet and Florence Wiles May 11, 1932. He attended School in Portland through High School, then joined the Navy at age 19 and was stationed on the aircraft carrier US Sicily, and also played football for the Navy football team. While still in the Navy he met and married Marianne Gaby, also known as Sunshine. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in July of 1953 and they also started their family that same year. They went back to Oregon where he attended Oregon State University for one year and played one year of football. While returning back to Oregon from Inglewood, Ca visiting in-laws some time in 1955, their car broke down in Bakersfield with no money or job, he found some work and decided this is where they would stay. He loved racing motorcycles and race cars from 1957 to 1968. He worked for Oilfield Construction for 30 years as a crane operator and was a member of Operating Engineers for 51 years. He retired in 1997 at age 65 and lived life to the fullest for several years, hunting, fishing, and trips to Mexico to visit friends that lived there. His family loved and respected him very much, he had a way with the grandkids and great grandkids that put huge smiles on their faces. He was able to be home as he wanted and was surrounded by family as he left this world here.
He leaves behind 1 brother Dick (Donna), 2 sons Steve and Brent, 5 Grandchildren Chet (Kori), Desra (Matt), Tamara (josh), Anthony (Hali), Crystal, and 11 Great Grandchildren to cherish great memories. Preceding him were his father and mother Chet and Florence, Brother Ralph, and 2 Grandchildren Ryan Lee and Chad Wiles.
The Family would like to thank Optimal Hospice and Around the Clock Companion Care for assisting him his last few months.

I was fortunate to know Norm as a regular fixture in our home at many family functions over the last 9 years or so. He was a dear friend of my dad's and quickly became part of our family. He had the absolute sweetest of smiles that could melt the hardest of hearts. Every single time I make or eat meatloaf I chuckle when remembering the time Norm told us about making meatloaf but during the course of making it he didn't have any bread crumbs so he used RAISIN CINNAMON BREAD!!!! Needless to say, he didn't make that substitution again (that he let us know about anyway)I laughed so hard and still have a great laugh thinking about him eating that meatloaf! On another note.. Norm thought so highly of his son Brent. He beamed when he spoke of him. Norm thought the whole world of his son and believed the sun rose and set on him. He will be missed but remembered with great love and happy memories
