Richard Myers Obituary

Richard Duane Myers was born on November 18, 1937, in Bakersfield, CA, to Elsie Alfter. He was a proud Bakersfield High School Driller, Class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. After proudly serving his country, he returned to Bakersfield. He worked for Atlantic Richfield for 7 years and Union Oil for 29 years as a communication specialist.
Richard loved racing cars and was an active member of Sports Car Limited. He loved to watch black and white movies and recording old radio shows. Daddy loved a good joke, and even when he was not feeling well, always had a joke to tell.
He is survived by the love of his life, Evelyn "Gail" Myers. They were married for 58 years. Daughters, Evelyn Myers-Long (Jim) of Knoxville, TN, and Leeta McCullah (Lance), Bakersfield, CA, and his "number three daughter," Carrie McCan (Loren). He is also survived by grandchildren, Katie Marcum (Waylon), Jacob Long (Sunny), Lance Corporal Sheldon Long, USMC (Mariah), Seth and Jonah Long of Knoxville, TN, Elizabeth Tipton (Andrew), and Emily McCullah of Bakersfield, CA, and Kevin McCullah (Liz Williams) of Santa Barbara. Great-granddaughters, Addison Marcum and Ryann Tipton; and great-grandson, Wiley Tipton, due March 2015.
Richard also leaves behind extended family and a wonderful group of lifelong friends, Terry McKelvey, George Brown, and Mel Moore, along with many friends that he had met at Cheers over the years.
Thank you to everyone who has visited and supported our family over the last year. Richard enjoyed each of your visits, and the support you have given Gail has been a blessing to our family.
