July 20, 1927 - December 22, 2021
Robert, age 94, passed away peacefully next to his wife Thelma Stanford on December 22, 2021 in their home in Wofford Heights, CA.
Robert, also known as, Papa and R.Q. James Stanford was born in Snyder, Oklahoma on July 20, 1927. He went to school at an Indian Reservation with 10 other students in Colorado. There he learned how to speak the Navajo language. Robert moved to Bakersfield, CA in the 40's. After moving, he started working in the oilfields at Hylton Drilling and became an icon for his hard work and dedication.
In 1947, Robert met Thelma Smith Stanford and stayed by each other's side ever since. Before getting married, Robert met Thelma's children: Margarete Walters, Jeanie Plant, Gary and Leslie Brown and Maureen Rector.
Robert survived by his wife of 73 years, 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Robert and Thelma lived their lives dancing the night away and traveling, where they then settled down in Wolford Heights, CA. Robert had a special way of showing his love to every person he met and was definitely one of a kind. When Robert walked into a room, he always knew how to make everyone laugh with the many jokes he had. He tried very hard to fight but knew it was his time to go. His very last words to his wife were, I know I am going to die and I want you to know that I love you very much.

Viewing will be from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on January 19, 2022 at The Hillcrest Mortuary, Kern Canyon Road. A funeral service is scheduled at 1:00pm on January 19, 2022.

Aunt Thelma and family, We just found out that Uncle Q had passed away one day last week! Darell and Tom did not brother to let any of us know. We are thinking of You and his family , just remember the memories and that he is in a better place! Love Craig and Barbara Wolf. I am Stan and Dorthy Leavell´s daughter, one of the Twins. I remember one time when You guys were here I fixed your hair as I was a hairdresser!! Take Care

I am so sorry I just found this...Bless his heart my he rest in peace..He was friends with my Dad and I'm sure Bob never forgot a face..He knew who I was and I was young when I had seen him last...we renewed our friendship and I got spend a little time with the most beautiful wife in the world..they gave me one of her paintings on one of my visits..Thank you Bob for remembering..God please wrap your arms around Thelma and be her strength..Forever my friends
