Dalton Richardson, 76, passed away in Bakersfield, California on September 6, 2004. He was born to Roy and Jessie Richardson on July 13, 1928, in Black Oak, Arkansas.
Dalton moved from Arkansas to Huntington Beach, California in 1941. He graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1946. While at Huntington Beach High School, Dalton was on the track and field team and held the school record for the 100 yard dash. Upon graduation, Dalton moved to Orland, California where he met the love of his life, his wife, Rosalie. Shortly after the birth of their second child, Dalton and Rosalie moved to the Orange County area where Dalton began a long farming career and he and Rosalie had three more children.
In 1965 Dalton, Rosalie and their children moved to Kern County and began farming in the Wheeler Ridge area. Dalton loved the land and enjoyed working with his wife, children and grandchildren on the farm. Dalton was proud to be a farmer and devoted many years to the development of farming in Kern County, as well as California. During the 1970s it was his great honor to serve as Chairman of the California Table Grape Commission. In the late 1980s Dalton developed a new peach, the Autumn Rose, named for his wife, Rosalie.
Dalton was a kind and loving person. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren remember many special times spent at the ranch. He loved hosting Christmas and his entire family looked forward to it. Dalton had a wonderful sense of humor. He received great joy in helping people. Dalton was loved by many and touched a great number of lives in his 76 years.
Dalton is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his daughter, Patricia and husband, Alan; sons, Donald, Garry and wife, Joan; daughters-in-law, Kathy and Frances; grandchildren, Shannon and husband, Shaun, Brian and wife, Tina, Leonard, Susanna and husband, John, Kevin, Rachel, Kyle, Eric and Brett; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Sam and Joel. He was preceded in death by sons, Roy and Larry and daughter-in-law, Helen.
The family would like to thank the staff at Emmanuel Convalescent San Joaquin for their loving care of Dalton during the last three months.
Services for Dalton Richardson will be Friday, September 10, at 1:00 p.m., at the South Kern Cemetery in Arvin.
