Ruby Junger Obituary

RUBY JOYCE JUNGER

October 29, 1926 – November 19, 2025

Ruby Joyce Junger, age 99, met her savior, Jesus, on November 19th, 2025, at Magnolia Place Assisted Living, with her family and loved ones by her side. Joyce was born on October 29th, 1926, to Edwin and Orpha Werneke in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was the youngest of four brothers and four sisters.

Joyce graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1943 and immediately went to work at the local flour mill and later worked at the local telephone company as an operator. She met her sweetheart, Ralph Leo Junger, shortly thereafter, and they married on August 4th, 1947. Ralph and Joyce moved to Garden City, Kansas, where they had their two children, Susan and Mary, and eventually moved to Augusta, Kansas, where Joyce commuted to Wichita to work for Boeing Aircraft. The year 1965 brought a cross-country move to the Golden State of California to live close to Joyce's sister, Leona. The family enjoyed these years as they took in all the sights that California had to offer. Joyce continued her career as a secretary at Superior Oil and finally at Mobil Oil where she retired in 1989. In her retirement, she assisted her husband, Ralph, in their business, Stockdale Janitorial, managing it even after his passing.

Joyce lost her father at age 11, and things were difficult for her and her single mother, Orpha Denver. Regardless of the circumstances, Joyce would recount many evenings sitting on their front porch enjoying homemade lemonade with mom and siblings, where they would laugh, talk, and tell stories.

Regardless of where Joyce lived, she was loved by her neighbors, co-workers, and even people she met at the Westchester Bowl for breakfast. She had a passion for her flower garden and for her annual attempts to grow luscious tomatoes. She loved her Senior Sunday group at Riverlakes Community Church lead by Milt Cole and the many friends she met there.

Joyce focused on the simple things in life; sitting on her glider watching her hummingbirds drink from her feeders, walking her dog in the streets of Old Westchester, baking pies and cobblers, but most of all she loved her family. She had a secret code – if she tapped on the palm of your hand three times it meant "I LOVE YOU".

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Junger. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Bynum (Larry), Mary Bynum (Greg), grandchildren Dustin Bynum (Hong), Donald Bynum (Christina), David Bynum (Megan), Marley Sherry (Adam), and great-grandchildren Rivers Bynum, August Bynum, Ivy Bynum, Dylan Bynum, Jordon Bynum and Kennedy Bynum.

We are thankful for the love and care given to Joyce these past years by caregivers Maria, Magda, Yvette, and Monica, as well as the staff and caregivers at Magnolia Place Assisted Living.

Memorial service will be held at Riverlakes Community Church on Wednesday, December 10th, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverlakes Community Church, Outreach and Care, 4300 Calloway Dr., Bakersfield, CA, 93312.

Dear Greg, Mary and Family,
Keith and I are saddened to learn of Joyce´s passing. We have fond memories of Joyce during my many years with Bynum and Associates. Keith and I would occasionally see Joyce in the grocery aisle at Smart and Final and spent time catching up on our respective families. We will always remember her friendly smile and cheerful nature.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Keith and Sabrina

Ruby attended the church service at Magnolia. She and I would make a joyful noise to the Lord from the back row! My husband Dave and I will miss her dearly. But praise the Lord she is home!

Chris & I send our condolences for your sweet mother! We always loved seeing her in the alley walking her dogs, we would always hear her saying "hi" to our dogs & "what good babies". I always admired her strength walking everyday even with her walker & dog by her side!

Oh Joyce! She will be forever a memory of my childhood as she lived by us. I was so confused when she was calling Barney the dog! It was always Barney! Barney! Ralph! Ralph! I guess Barney was afraid of Ralph? She was a nice neighbor. She lived a long life. My Mom still lives over there.
