Ruth Morgan Obituary

Ruth C. Morgan November 21, 1913 - August 8, 2010 Ruth C. Morgan was born on November 21, 1913, in Arizona to James and Rena Cox, the eldest of three children. She passed away on August 8, 2010, in Dublin, CA. When Ruth was a child her family moved to Southern California. Ruth entered nurses training at County General Hospital in Los Angeles. After her son started school, she completed her RN degree at UCLA. Ruth enjoyed the nursing profession, having worked both as a visiting nurse and later as a school nurse. Ruth lived a very full life helping others and pursuing her many hobbies such as gardening, bird watching, sewing, doing jigsaw puzzles and lapidary. It was through the Norwalk Rock Hound Club that she met Sherman Morgan, the love of her life, after she had already retired from nursing. They married and shared three joyous years before Sherman passed away. Ruth moved to Frazier Park and drove all around Southern California doing part-time work for the U.S. Census Bureau until she was 85. In 1999 she moved to Bakersfield where she continued to remain very active in the Kern City community. She helped maintain the community garden, volunteered at Rosewood, was very active in the church group and especially enjoyed her Scrabble group. She was also active in the California Retired Teachers Association. In 2007 she moved to Dublin, CA, where she remained until her passing. Ruth is survived by her son, Thomas W. Long and wife Donna; and her stepchildren, Lauralee Dohse, David Morgan, Susan Martinez, Annette Morgan and Lynn Morgan; and their families as well as countless additional relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August, 28, at 2:00 p.m., at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kern Divison California Teachers Scholarship Association or your favorite charity. www.bakersfield.com/obits
