My wife Deanna and I were co-workers with Shirley at Kern County Mental Health through her retirement in 1997. We remember her exactly as described in this very fitting obituary. Shirley had compassion for all but never let that get in the way of being firm with anyone who needed it. Through her, I reconnected with her son Kerry, with whom I worked in the Men's department of Brocks Department Store to whom I offer my deepest condolences - your mom was a bigger-than-life kind of person who made left the world a whole lot better than she found it and will be missed by us, other co-workers at KCMH and the many families and children she served who were lucky to benefit from her heart, talent and wisdom.
