Vera Mae Mills was born on March 10, 1913, in Vian, Oklahoma. She went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2002.
Vera married Lester J. Smithson, on September 4, 1930, and they had three children, Dub, Gerald and Karen. They moved their family to Bakersfield, California in 1945 where they worked in the fields to support their family. In 1965, Lester passed away. In 1969, Vera married long-time friend, Clarenc T. Mills. They lived and worked on The Milk Jug Dairy until their retirement in 1972.
Vera was preceded in death by Lester Smithson and Clarence T. Mills, and her eldest son, Gerald Smithson. She is survived by her son, Dub Smithson and wife, Pat; daughter, Karen Etchebarne; daughter-in-law, Alma Smithson; sister, Amanda Jordan; five grandchildren, Dennis, Deanna, Janet, Michele and Debra; ten great-grandchildren, Shane, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Chad, Anthony, Zachary, Brenna, Patrick, Connor and Samatha.
She will be sorely missed by her family and all who were lucky enough to have known her. We will always be thankful for her and all her loving and caring ways. We love and miss you Mom.
The family would like to thank all that aided in her care over the past few years, All About Caring, Parkview Julian Convalescent Hospitals staff and nurses, and Optimal Hospice.
Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Tuesday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m.
Visitation begins Monday, October 14, 2 p.m.
