Anna was my high school teacher and ultimately my friend and hero! We became friends and she shared her beautiful family with me. I think of her very often and miss her. I miss her clever sense of humor and her the privilege of knowing each member of her beautiful family. She changed lives and made a difference for so many!

Anna, a most rare person, had a distinction few knew. She is one of the few (maybe only?) females to enter the church sanctuary during a liturgy. Her father, a priest, had her substitute for a missing acolyte for a service during her youth. For years she transmitted her personal beauty to the music of the church.

Dear John, Steve and family,
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the passing of your dear mother Anna (she gave many of her adult graduates permission to call her by her first name).
John, you and I spoke last week about my visits to your mother up and down the east coast. Anna and you remembered, all to well, my disastrous rendition of the Hebrew song I attempted at a holiday assembly. The two word ad-lib that were not part of the lyrics but, were recorded on the Co-ed Chorale 1965 album.
Anna was a little surprised the first time she was told she taught Mama Cass in her early Forest Park career.
I and other students could go on for hours with stories of how your mother us, even to enjoy classical and scat music,
Again, I grieve with you and your families at the loss of a dear teacher and friend Anna Gallos.

Members of the Forest Park Coed-Chorale will remember her great choral
directing.
She schooled us to sing music from different faiths and confessions. She was
an ecumenical orthodox.
She prepared us and accompanied the choir to the All Maryland School Choir
Convention, and sent some pupils on extra occasions to choir workshops, some
highlights to remember.
She inspired me to study school music which I profit from today with my own
choir work. No other teacher gave me 100 in music as a grade on my report
card. I called her when she was 72 years old, and wrote once in a while E-
mails thanking her for being such a positive influence in my life. I asked
and received some of her liturgical music which I wholly cherish. I am so
glad to have had this contact, to hear her voice, sharing memories.
I know that my appreciation of this great teacher includes many of us who
sang and studied under her direction.

My memories of Anna are of how in tuned her ear was to music. I was a member of the Junior Choir at Annunciation Cathedral, Baltimore, MD. With her wonderful teaching she had the Junior Choir give a spring concert which included songs from "West Side Story". At my age now I can still sing those songs that she taught us. She was strong and so profound in what she gave us. I will never forget her. Her music is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes of JOY!

I was also in The Coed Chorale! I graduated from Forest Park in 1965. Mrs. Gallos taught us about concert ettiquette. I passed on those suggestions to my children and all of my grandchildren. She was a wonderful role model. I think about her often, especially when the people behind me at concerts tap their feet, crinkle their cellophane wrappers, and hum! Mrs. Gallos wouldn't be pleased. May her family find comfort in their memories.

I tried to hide from her at City College; prayed that she wouldn't get to test my voice since I was very shy and sat almost under the desk, last student in the room. The bell didn't ring....drats! I sang and the heads in class snapped around. You are in the choir! Next semester she moved to Forest Park.I have friends that even after 65 years remember what happened. She was great and beautiful as well.

Dearest Stephen and John,
Your mother was an icon in my life and all whom she taught and befriended. When she asked me to teach piano to John, it was one of the greatest complements of my life since she was my music teacher at Forest Park High School. I have many touching and humorous memories of her and the Gallos Family. Her numerous gifts will continue forever. With much love, Marjorie Liss
