Benjamin Whitman Obituary

Benjamin T. Whitman passed away peacefully on August 7th at the age of 79. He is survived by his long-time partner Olivia Rasumussen and three children Elizabeth Landers of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Benjamin G. Whitman of Baltimore, Maryland, and Robert S. Whitman of Charleston, South Carolina and his four grandchildren Margaret Holland Landers, Whitman Bradford Landers, Henry Garland Landers, and Oliver Benjamin Whitman. Ben is also survived by the mother of his children, Margaret G. Whitman. Ben was a devoted father, an accomplished runner, and a dedicated educator. Ben attended Indian Mountain School and The Frederick Gunn School, both in his home state of Connecticut, and then went on to receive his BA from Washington College and his Doctor of Education from Columbia University. He loved spending summers golfing and hiking in the Adirondack mountains with his family, studying history through reading and travel, and was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church. He will be remembered for his kind heart and his commitment to education. A service will be held on October 25th at 10:30am at the chapel at the Church of the Redeemer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Washington College in his honor either online or by check. If you make your gift by check, please mail it to the attention of Emily Kate Smith, 300 Washington Ave, Chestertown, MD 21620.
