Brian Flanagan Obituary



Brian Emmett Flanagan, 46, of Silver Spring, Maryland, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, following an extended illness. Born October 23, 1970 in Erie, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the Rev. Carol Cole Flanagan and the late William E. Flanagan, Jr. He was a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland High School in Pittsford, NY. At Towson University he earned a degree in mass communications, and was a member of the National Broadcasting Society's Alpha Epsilon Rho Chapter where he served as president and delegate to the national convention. During that time he worked for six years at Holy Cross Hospital as a pharmacy technician earning the 5 Year Service Award. Upon graduation he served as a Public Information Officer and Communication Specialist for the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Brian joined the Baltimore City Fire Department in 1998 and served as an Emergency Vehicle Driver for Truck 23 until he was injured in a house fire in 2010. Serving as a fire fighter was his passion, and in 1998 he received the Annual Scholar's Award of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company. Five years later, in 2003 he was awarded the Baltimore City Fire Department Exemplary Performance Medal and the Distinguished Unit Citation. He was a proud member of The Emerald Society, BCFD. Survivors include his mother, Carol Cole Flanagan, of Silver Spring, and his sister, Patricia A. Flanagan, of Baltimore. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at The Cathedral of the Incarnation, 4 E. University Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21204. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Box 414 Foundation, 414 N. Gay St., Baltimore, MD 21202. Founded in 1949, the association serves the Baltimore City Fire and Police Departments and operates the Baltimore City Fire Museum.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I loved him & I will miss Brian. He will never be forgotten his memories will live on forever. until We meet again in the next world my heart is sad. Brian had such a remarkable loving caring, unique, special strong Heart that is something that will be remembered & always cherished forever. Brain is gone from this world but his spirit lives on. His warm incredible Hugh heart is hugging his loved ones left behind Brian is with us in our hearts, our minds, our dreams, Brian will never forget his loved ones that are still here or his friends. I for sure know I will never forget Brian He has touched my life in a unique way. I miss him every minute, every hour, every day till I see Brian again. I know Brian is at peace & no more pain no more suffering his body, his organs are at rest at peace. that itself makes me happy I have seen Brain through it all... I am sad he is not hear to hear his voice to chat on the phone or see Brain on Face book to hear his funny jokes his silly laugh his amazing stories, his snack tips he loved to share every day to all his friends on face book ..Brain was always wanting to cheer everyone up make every one laugh despite he was sick, he put others ahead of himself that made him happy ..he was an amazing person so brilliant very smart, I will treasury his memories forever Brian will always & forever be in my heart .I thank god for putting a special person in my life. I had someone that loved me unconditional love that is rare & amazing and one of a kind friend ship. Brian was my best friend and I was his. I miss Brian. I know for sure Brain is in Heaven for sure without question Brian was a unique special person that has touched so many lives. Heaven now has a special new angel watching over his mother, sister, his beloved family & friends that will never forget him we will always love him as I know for sure I will never forget Brian. gone for sure to soon But at peace .. Brian has found true happiness he is home. Brian is safe in heaven.
