C. Bickell Obituary

C. Scott Bickell, 77, of Columbia, Maryland passed away on August 26, 2021 at Howard County General Hospital. He was born on October 14, 1943 to the Reverend Dr. Charles A. Bickell and Marion T. Bickell in Lycoming, Pennsylvania. His sister Gretchen Jordan preceded him in death in 2002.

Scott was a graduate of York Suburban High School in York, PA and of Drew University in Madison, NJ where he met his future wife, Elizabeth Petz. After marriage, they settled in Columbia, Maryland in 1971 where they raised their three children.

Scott proudly served 30 years as a Senior Operations Officer and a Senior Warning Officer at the National Security Agency and served three years in Okinawa, Japan.

During retirement, he became a founding member and current treasurer of the Columbia Serenity Center which serves and supports an individual's emotional and spiritual growth. He also worked part-time for Schuster Concrete in Jessup, Maryland since 2006.

He was a devoted father and PopPop who spent many happy hours watching his 7 grandchildren play baseball, soccer, basketball, golf, swimming and gymnastics.

He is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Bickell and their children: Kristen Welch, Wendy Avery (husband John), Danny Bickell (wife Ginny); grandchildren Tyler Welch, Johnny Welch, Malia Bickell, Johnny Avery, Katie Avery, Miles Bickell and Calvin Bickell; partner Dale Kane and her son, Nater Kane; brother-in-law Dr. William Jordan; sister-in-law Eileen Kirkner and extended family and friends. A service of love and remembrance was held on September 4, 2021 in Columbia, Maryland.
