Clarence Hess Obituary

LEBANON – Mr. Clarence William Hess, age 87, of the River Mountain Road section, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2007, in a Russell County, Va., hospital.
Born Feb. 29, 1920, in Russell County, he was a son of the late Dave and Minnie Honaker Hess. A lifelong resident of the area he attended Outreach Temple and Full Gospel House of Prayer. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a coal miner at Jewell Smokeless Coal Corp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Abraham Donald Hess; one daughter, Phyllis Jean Hess; three brothers, David Junior Hess, Arthur Hess and Irvin Hess; and three sisters, Dorothy Hess, Cordelia Combs and Elizabeth "Betty" Hinderliter.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Charmie Hess of the home; one son, William Thomas Hess of Route 1, Lebanon; five daughters, Margaret Hess of the home, Mary Joyce Easterling, Carolyn Lester and Betty Cook, all of Route 1, Lebanon and Bernice Higgins of Illinois; two brothers, Fay Stuart Hess and Clyde Baker Hess, both of Lebanon; three sisters, Mary Ann Miller of Honaker, Audrey Lou Hess of Illinois and Evangeline Ratliff of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Peerman Lester, the Rev. Chris Musick and the Rev. Arvil Arwood officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Jim Taylor, Jay Howard, Randy Howard, Luther Cook, Archie Hess, Ray Lester and Lawrence Hess.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Hess, Jonathan Short, Wesley Easterling and J.L. Lester.
Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Thursday, where a service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
