Clarence L. Young Jr.

1926 - 2021

Clarence L Young, Jr. died peacefully on January 27, 2021 at Augsburg Home in Lochearn, MD. He was 94 years old. Clarence was born in Baltimore on July 25, 1926, the second youngest of five children of the late Clarence L Young, Sr of Morgantown, WV and Anna Mae Young (nee Butcher) of Chestertown, MD. Clarence grew up in West Baltimore, attending Baltimore City Public Schools until leaving Douglass High School following his junior year to enter the draft. He served in the US Navy rising to Aviation Metalsmith and Chief Petty Officer, 3rd Class, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946. After leaving the Navy, Clarence returned to Baltimore, briefly joining his family's dry-cleaning business. Over the course of a fifty year career he held positions in companies and organizations in Greater Baltimore including Eastern Stainless Steel, Kennecott Refining Corporation, Youngs Cleaners (owner-operator), Mt Sinai Hospital, and the Baltimore VA Hospital as Boiler Plant Operator and Utility Systems Operator, the latter for 20 years, until his retirement in 1996. Clarence was an active member of the Leighton-Burleith, Greater Mondawmin and Scott Hill Neighborhood Associations and manager and coach in the Forest Park Little League.

He was predeceased by his four siblings and by his beloved wife and partner of 61 years, Cassandra Roy Young and a son, Wayne Roy Young. He is survived by his son, Dr. Clarence L Young, III, Philadelphia, PA, daughter-in-law, Wendy Nickerson, step-granddaughter, Stephanie Blumberg, nieces, nephews and friends and two granddogs, Charlie and Sammy.

The viewing will be held on Mon, February 8th from 12:30PM to 3:30PM and on Tues, February 9th the wake and funeral service from 12 noon to 1:30PM at Wylie Funeral Home in Randallstown Maryland with internment at Arbutus Memorial Park.
