Daniel McConaughy Obituary

Daniel Bailey McConaughy, of Glen Arm, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on the evening of February 20, 2025, at Glen Meadows Retirement Community. Born in Somerville, New Jersey, Dan was the son of the late Harold "Doc" and Miriam (Bailey) McConaughy and the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Hakenjos) McConaughy.

A man of deep faith, Dan's life was centered around his love for Jesus and his family. He met Ann Hakenjos while serving on the mission field in Puerto Rico. She became his devoted and loving wife of 70 years, and together they enjoyed a full life rooted in service to their family, stewardship of the blessings entrusted to them by God, and unwavering commitment to their faith.

Dan was an active and dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as both an elder and trustee. His career was spent as a professional forester with Maryland Department of Natural Resources, where he helped countless landowners care for their forested land. He also modeled the same stewardship principles as the owner and operator of Maranatha Tree Farm in Harford County, producing quality Christmas trees and spreading the love of Jesus every holiday season.

Dan is survived by his wife and their four children: Stephen McConaughy (Rita), Peter McConaughy (Michele), Andrew McConaughy (Carol), and Lois Johnson (Ed); six grandchildren (Kris, Nathan, Amy, Angela, Rick and Dana); and six great-grandchildren (and counting). Dan was preceded in death by his two younger brothers, David and Paul.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air from 11 am - 12 pm, and will be immediately followed by a memorial service to celebrate Dan's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air (224 N. Main St., Bel Air, MD 21014) or the benevolence fund of the Glen Meadows Foundation (11630 Glen Arm Rd., Glen Arm, MD 21057).
