What a huge loss for the Zoch family and the Gray Charles community. Dave was such a good guy to be around. He will be missed by all that knew him.I personally will miss watching the Gray Charles baseball games and the Comanche football games with him. He would always ask me how my boys Steven and Danial were doing. Dave never had a negative thing to say about anyone. He was respected by all and will not be replaced by any one person. Thanx for all you did for everyone. You are missed dearly.God bless your family. Steve,Sandy,Steven and Danial.

********** MY UNCLE **********

Was my best friend and someone that I could talk to. I will miss you so much and I will always think about you. And you will always be in my heart. I only had 22 years to spend with him. And in those 22 years that I have know him. He was the best Uncle, Brother, Son, Father, Coach, and Friend that anyone could ever have. And no one could ever replace him. No matter how sick he was he was always their if you needed him. My son loved him so much and even know he only had 3 years to spend with him. I will make sure that he remembers him. Dave always told my son when you get bigger you will come play basketball for me. And even know he wont be his coach. He will play sports for Gray Charles. And he will hear all the wonderful things that his uncle did for everyone. I want to give Joah Hager a special thanks for the things that she did for my uncle and for my family. Thank you so much for your help and support in are time and need. Dave will always be remembered. He is now in heaven looking down on all of us. And I know he is ok in Heaven. Because he is their with his father my grandfather. One day we all will be together again. You will always be with us.

Love you, Amanda, Matthew Sr, And Matthew Jr. :)

My brother has touched many lives. I was overwhelmed how many people showed up both at the hospital and the funeral. All my life I watched Dave take in families that need help both in sports and life in gereal. He adopted families in need at Christmas. I remember as a young child buying presents for a family he adopted. He had me involved with him. I was proud then and even more so now. If he didn't have me playing basketball he had me collecting bats at the games. I spent aot of time as a child at the rec with him. He had me smashing beer cans in the drive way to collect money for the his baseball teams. He had my son in basketball for 4 years. My daughter has been a cheerleader for 5 years now, as soon as Gray Charles started a cheerleading program Dave called me and Carley joined. They had dinner on thursdays at my mothers and he took her to practice. She went to find him during breaks and half time on the field. Me and my Children will miss him greatly. I want to thank the Gray Charles rec. for all there help thru this very difficult time. Especially Joan Hager. It has meant a great deal to me and my family. As much as I'm mourning now I'm trying to take comfort knowing that Dave has had difficulting breathing and walking for some time know, but know he's breathing and running with his children again. I love you so much Dave. But we'll be together again one day. Love, your sister Chris, your brother-in-law Heath, nephew, Steven, niece Carley.

What does one begin to say about someone who has touched so many, many lives, to say thank you just does not seem to say enough. The few years that I worked in the Rec. Office and came to know Dave was some of the most enjoyable times in mine and my family's life. He made me feel welcome at the office, he made my husband feel apart of a community, my children a part of a team. He is a man that will always be cherrished in the circle of friends and in life.

Our deepest sympathy is with you and your family.

January 26, 2006

Wow, so unbelievable to hear the sad news of Dave's passing. We've lost a Gray Charles icon- no one has exhibited such dedication & commitment to our kids and to the soccer and baseball programs in Charlesmont.

Our family has known Dave for 15 years, he was involved with our oldest son when he played 6-8 baseball... and later umpired our youngest son for many years. He recruited me to umpire after years of chasing me down. I so enjoyed working along side Dave, learning from him and his unbelievable work ethic and devotion to our children.

As busy as Dave was, he never forgot to ask how our son was doing after he had a few life threatening surgeries, he truly cared about everybody. We ran into Dave a few times over the years at Squires, he always invited us to sit with him and his friends.

We moved to PA 6 months ago and the sports programs here are no match to the program Dave ran at Gray Charles. We need more Daves in this world. The thing I will miss most is his midnight phone calls to make sure I would show up to umpire the next day's game.

Our prayers go out to Dave's family... you will be sorely missed.

The friendly giant that I met 32 years ago and am proud to say is my brother(in-law), my husbands brother and an Uncle,Godfather and yes even Coach to my children. Everyone speaks of his rec council dedication and we are all proud of that but, I am most proud to say that I share his last name. I have been luckier than others to be able to watch as Dave became a man, husband & father. I have been there to see him in good and bad times as he has me. He was always there if I needed him (but I'd have to go to Stricker to find him). We all loved and will greatly miss Dave and only wish that we had more time with him. I wanted to watch our future grandchildren play and maybe even have him help to coach them or at least tell them the stories of what he used to do.

I could always count on hearing "love you" and a compliment along with that silly laugh and smile. A smile that was taken way too early from us. He will smile on all of us from heaven with Dad and watch the family grow and play.

His brother will miss him dearly and so will the rest of us. Well, we all love and miss you dearly but now you can finally rest and be at peace.

Love Always,

Debbie

Roger Staggs

January 26, 2006

Condolences from the Staggs family. Roger, Melanie, Rusty and Tonya. Rusty and Tonya grew up with Dave. Dave and I coached Rusty when he was 13 through 16 in baseball. Dave and I umpired baseball for many years together. He was a founder in the annual Gray Charles Baseball Tournament. Even though at that time Dave didn't have any children in the programs, he coached baseball and basketball and gave up many a Sunday morning for the kids. Dave was a big kid himself and those that knew him also knew that little laugh of his. I had not seen Dave for several years until I came back home for a family funeral last year. I saw Dave and we spoke as if those memories had occurred only yesterday. He will be missed but always remembered.

As we all mourn and our hearts are filled with sadness today---let us celebrate the life of a man that has dedicated himself to the youth of the community. Sometimes putting those kids in front of his own family---and why---because they were all his kids. The halls of General John Stricker School, the fields of Gray Charles and Gray Manor Park will never be the same without Dave attending a youth sporting event. We all have lost a great friend. But in the end, God needed someone to start a Rec council in heaven so he decided Dave was the man. God bless you my friend, and it was a great honor to have worked with you/for you.

Mark Travagline

January 26, 2006

My condolences to the Zoch family.

Dave was a friend, neighbor, coach, and a wonderful person. I have known Dave for about 20 years. Either on the softball field, touch football league, and when I played basketball at Gray Charles rec. He also lived down the street from me and would always give a friendly wave or stop by for a chat. He was truly a great guy and will surely be missed. There will be a big void in Gray Charles rec council. God Bless his family and may he rest in peace.

Lana Kramer

January 26, 2006

A truly wonderful person. He has been a constant in so many lives for so many years. He was a "Godfather" to these programs, because he watched over us.

So many of us speed through our busy lives and never take the time to see where we are. We only worry about where we are going. The Godfather did not do that. He always stopped and took the time to notice.

How many of us registered a child at Gray Charles and knew Dave Zoch because he either coached you, or someone you knew. That action speaks to a person.

His gentle giant presence will be missed. I feel very fortunate to have known this man and thank God for letting us borrow him even for the short time he was on this earth. I personally want to thank his family for supporting his efforts in the rec council. Dave was able to be part of so many things and so many lives. One person can make a difference, and the reflection of his efforts can be seen throughout the seasons on any GC field. He will continue to watchover us, but now he has a better view.

God Bless you Dave Zoch!

Thank you Mr. Dave for dedicating your time to me and my team and for being our coach. You were my coach for about four years and I thank you for being there for me every practice and game. In our busy lives we never seem to have enough time to keep in touch with all our family members. I always enjoyed chatting with you when we got the chance and I am sorry my son will not have the opportunity to learn from you the way so many other children have over the years. David was a great guy and will be truly missed by everyone who knew him. My love and prayers are with the people that loved him most. Your cousin, Leslie

I think everyone in Dundalk knows Dave Zoch. Some of us refer to him as the Mayor of Dundalk. Dave has dedicated his life to the youth of our community. He has 32 years of service with the Gray Charles Rec. Council. His dedication & commitment cannot be compared. He is a legend. There is no way we could ever replace Dave. We can only hope that other people will step and try to help fulfill his dreams and continue his legacy within the community. It will take many people to step up and fill Dave shoes. In life, in rec., in sports, and in friendship. He was the kindest man I have ever known.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his family as we mourn the loss of the wonderful man.
