Eddylou Alascio Obituary

Eddylou Virden Alascio (nee: Walker), 84, of Baltimore Maryland, passed away on August 18, 2024, peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones, after battling cancer for 13 years. Eddylou was born on June 2, 1940 in Baltimore where her parents Edward Hill Walker and Ruth Walker raised her.

Eddylou was an accomplished pianist and studied music at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. She was an avid cook and baker and wrote a cookbook for her family (probably so everyone would stop asking for her recipes!). Eddylou loved traveling, watching everything Netflix had to offer and spending time with her beloved family.

Eddylou is survived by her husband Thomas Alascio and her 4 children: Robert Charles Virden, Jr. (Tehseen), Charles Edward Virden (Ellen), Laura Lee Kelbaugh (Tim) and Thomas Alascio, Jr. (Becky). She has ten grandchildren: Amanda Kelbaugh Los (Ron), Nicholas Virden, Timothy Kelbaugh, Jr. (Kelly), Talula Crandall (Ryan), Chloe Virden, Bradley Virden, Gracie Virden, Mahalia Alascio, Bella Virden, and Caimen Alascio. Eddylou was blessed with two great-grandchildren as well: Kennedy Los and Lennon Crandall, plus one on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Debbie Walker and her niece and nephew Susan Millard (Chris) and Harry Walker Jr. (Denise). She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Edward and Harry Walker, her ex-husband Robert Virden, Sr., and her sister-in-law Doris Walker.

The family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.

It was almost (40) years ago when I had just graduated from Virginia Tech and moved into a house on Valleyfield Road in Timonium with my roommates. Back then, knowing your neighbors and caring form them was a cherished American value. And I was blessed with one of the best neighbors.

In a very short period of time, I became good friends with both Bob & Eddylou Virden despite our age difference. I have a lot of fun memories of my time with them. They always came to our annual Halloween parties; we hung out together and had long chats on a regular basis in our backyard.

It was not difficult to see Eddylou´s unwavering commitment to her family and children. The results of her hard work and devotion as a mother speaks for themselves - three responsible and successful citizens in this world. Her oldest son, Bobby is my neighbor again after more than three decades.

For me, it´s unimaginable how I would have dealt with the turmoil and challenges, I faced as a first generation Pakistani American in my youthful years, without her timely and invaluable friendship and guidance.

Eddylou, you will always have my profound gratitude for your caring words and actions.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Virden-Alascio! You were one of the finest human beings I have had the privilege to know and call my friend.

So many fond memories of growing up with Ms Lou. She was like my 2nd Mom and was my Moms best friend. She fought so valiantly for herself and her family. To say she will be missed is simply not enough....my thoughts are with Bobby, Eddie, and Laura and all of her family and friends who loved her so. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but love leaves a memory no one can steal.
