Edward Schaefer Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of

Edward "Bucky" Alexander Schaefer on November 16, 2022, at his home in Culpeper, Virginia. He was 38 years old.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 24, 1984, to Edward and Carole Schaefer of Edgevale Road. He lived with his parents and brother, Chris, in Roland Park.

He graduated from the Gilman School in Baltimore, where he played baseball, wrestling, and soccer, and ran track and cross country. He attended Drexel University and graduated from UMBC with a degree in philosophy. While at UMBC, he led a Metallica cover band named Team Metal as well as guest played in Symbolic Tribute and Drunken Master, hosted a weekly metal radio show on WMBC, and played rugby. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi, Eta Phi chapter fraternity.

Following graduation, he worked in sales and real estate but followed his computer programming passion, pursuing advanced degrees in programming and web development from Udacity. He was also a celebrated club member of Catonsville Toastmasters.

For three years he worked as a Full Stack Web Developer for AggDirect. Most recently he worked for AboutWeb LLC where he was a Frontend Web Developer for the U. S. Department of Agriculture and was responsible for developing the world's largest fungus database, MYCODAT.

In 2016, he fell in love with his life partner, Nadia Quiroga, an ESOL teacher for the Baltimore City Schools after being friends since 2012. They lived together for many years in Maryland and had purchased a large country home in Culpeper, Virginia in early 2022 where they lived with their two dogs, Blue and Wolfhart.

A funeral mass honoring his life will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 120 N. Front Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202 on Saturday, December 3, 2022. A reception will be held at 10am, with the mass starting at 11am.

Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer, Christopher and Nadia,

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Ed was a consummate professional, a part of our work family, a joy to work with and great at what he did. Both in the technical side as well as in the people side, taking the time to understand the customer's business. They spoke very highly of him and quickly gained their trust. We would have technical talks on the side and how to best solve a solution. He always wanted to learn and tinker with new tech. I also learned from him and will personally miss those chats and his humor. Thank you for sharing Ed with us, he made a very positive impact and will be truly missed by all of us here at AboutWeb.

Warmest condolences,

Phill Nacelli

Dear Edward, Carol, Chris and Nadia,

We are praying for your comfort and peace at this sad time. I´m sure Bucky would have been a student we saw at Gilman when we ran there and he ran track. God rest his soul.
