Florence Aaronson Obituary

Florence Aaronson, 98, known publicly as Flo Ayres, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Friday, January 14th, 2022. She is survived by her nephew, Marc (Murphy) Gerber; niece, Ann (Robert) Herman; cousins, Betsy Harmatz, Barbara Lebson, Monte Ephraim, and Lon Ephraim; great nieces and nephews, Scott (Monica) Herman, Douglas (Lisa) Herman, Matthew (Marcia) Herman, Ashley Early, and Alexander (Tierney) Gerber; second cousins, Josh (Lori) Lebson, Andrew (Danni) Lebson, and Rebecca (Simon) Yorinks; and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Rebecca Spector; siblings, Fred Aaronson, Samuel Aaronson, and Rosalie Gerber.

Flo was a trailblazer in both radio and television, providing her well known voice to commercials and broadcasts of all types. She was considered to be one of the local pioneers in her union, AFTRA, and one of the first female leaders in her industry. Her professional accomplishments were matched only by her ability to connect to those around her of all ages and backgrounds. She will be missed by all who knew her. May her memory be a blessing always.

I met Flo 16 years ago through my best friends Tony D´Agostino and Leigh Vinocur. For the longest time, I would have sworn Flo was Leigh´s mother, such was the sweet and caring bond between them. I would see Flo at dinners, concerts, and other cultural events - Tony and Leigh and Flo were inseparable. When I found out Flo was not Leigh´s mother, it didn´t really faze the appreciation I had for their bond. I kept in contact with Flo over the ensuing years because she was a regular guest a Leigh and Tony´s house, for dinner, parties, or just a Sunday afternoon. Watching her interact with Leigh´s son Max was special, too. There was just something about Flo that attracted good people to her, compelling them to care for her. And in her last years, it was amazing to see the bond between Flo and Leigh strengthen, as Flo needed increasing levels of weekly, and then daily interaction with someone who loved her just like a mother. Leigh and Tony´s commitment to caring for this amazing woman allowed me and my wife to continue to at least have some level of connection with Flo. And she was sharp as a tack until the very end. When her vision was failing, and I encountered her at Leigh and Tony´s home, Leigh would say that "Jeff is here," and Flo wouldn´t miss a beat, asking, by name, if my wife was there, too. We had many good reminiscences about the `good old days´ of advertising, radio, and voice over work-knowing many of the same people since I was in the advertising business. She was chipper, and witty to the end-likely because every time I saw her she was in the company of people who loved her, were committed to honoring her dignity and life, and who provided for her every need, 24/7. Peace and love to you and your memory Flo, and to the best in those you brought it out of!
