Freida Mazer

On September 20, 2025, Freida Mazer (nee Holzweig) beloved wife of Milton ("Moot") Mazer; loving mother of Robert (Stacey) Mazer and Susan (Louis) Breitenother; devoted sister of the late Toby (Ben ) Rosen and Sonya ("Sonny") Davis; dear daughter of the late Ida and Nathan Holzweig; loving grandfather of Lauren (Jeffrey) Clark, Scott (Sarah) Breitenother and Sarah (William Lenkin) Mazer; adored great grandmother of Elianna, Asher, and Aviva Clark; and Tamara and Hugo Breitenother.

Freida was born in Ellicott City, Maryland on October 29, 1927. She attended Howard County public schools before enrolling at Drexal University and then Ohio State University. During the summer after her junior year in college, she was introduced to Milton (Moot) Mazer and rather than return to Ohio State, she transferred to what was then known as Towson State Teachers College to complete her studies. Upon graduation, she married Moot. Freida then went to work, teaching in Baltimore City schools. In 1957, Freida and Moot moved to the Liberty Road area of Baltimore County and with a small group of young Jewish families founded Beth Israel Congregation, then in Randallstown, Maryland. These families became lifelong friends of Freida and Moot.

Freida returned to teaching and, for many years, served as the director of Beth Israel's nursery school and kindergarten program during which time, it became the largest pre-school Jewish religious program in the area. Years later, after her children were grown, Freida adapted her teaching skills to become an instructor at Weight Watchers, a position she enjoyed for many years. Freida was active in various charities, particularly the Edith Rosen Strauss organization created to provide cancer aid for children. In later years, she became known for her positive attitude and happy demeanor at the North Oaks Senior Living Community. Freida was happiest when she was with her grandchildren and watching her great grandchildren play.

Services at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., 8900 Reisterstown Road, at Mount Wilson Lane on Monday, September 22, at 9:30 am. Interment Mikro Kodesh Beth Israel Cemetery - 6700 Bowleys Lane.
