Gillian Isaac Obituary

Gillian Raemi (Newman) Isaac, MD, PhD, aged 47, of Phoenix, Maryland, passed away on April 2, 2024.

Gillian was born November 30, 1976, to Judy Stone and Parley Newman in New York City. She was raised in northern Virginia and attended BYU, where she graduated in Chemistry. She went on to earn her PhD in Biochemistry at Georgetown University, followed by her MD at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine.

Dr. Isaac began her anesthesiology residency at Columbia University before transferring to Johns Hopkins University, where after graduation, she became chief of the Obstetric Anesthesia Division at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Gillian went on to serve as Associate Program Director of the anesthesiology residency at JHU and then Director of the Obstetrics Anesthesia Fellowship. Most recently Gillian served as Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty Affairs and Development at the JHU School of Medicine, while also working as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine, specializing in obstetric regional anesthesiology. In recognition of her anesthesia pedagogy, Dr. Isaac received multiple Golden Apple Awards from her graduating residents.

Gillian is survived by her husband Sean Isaac, MD, sons Anderson and Alexander, daughter Abby, mother Judy Stone and Judy's wife Beth Stevens, father Parley Newman, stepmother Ann Newman, sisters Courtney Angiola and Chrissie Nielsen, and brothers Andrew Newman and Jeff Newman. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 3100 Monkton Rd, Monkton, MD, on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 12:00 pm.

Gillian played a huge role in the life of my brother Rick and gave a beautiful eulogy at his funeral. She was such a dear friend to him and we have been eternally grateful for the kindness she showed him and their sweet friendship. Our hearts break for her family and this loss they have suffered.
