Herbert Horowitz Obituary

With a full heart, we mourn the death of Herb Horowitz, PhD. A clinical psychologist, beloved by family and friends, Herb touched the lives of many with his profound insights and gentle demeanor. His passing on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 89, leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will forever live on.

Above all he loved his wife, Sylvia, his children, grandchildren, and friends. Herb was not just a clinical psychologist; he was a beacon of wisdom and compassion. Through his work, he offered comfort and guidance to countless individuals grappling with the complexities of the human mind and the soul. His ability to listen, understand, and provide support was unparalleled. Herb's unique attention made you feel seen, heard, and comforted by his words. He served as a friend, confidant, and inspiration to many. His presence reminded us to live with intention, discover our ""why"", and find meaning in adversity. He made us think about life and death in profound ways.

Born in Vienna, Austria, his family escaped the Nazis and made it to the US where the family was able to create stability. Eventually, with his first wife, Edie, he had three biological children, Paul (deceased), Diana, and Laura.

We celebrate the beauty and impact of his life, the warmth of his smile, the twinkle in his eyes, and the gentle wisdom he offered. We honor his memory by carrying forward the lessons he taught, embracing compassion and understanding, and seeking truth in the face of adversity.

In sorrow, memories of Herb bring solace. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory bless us all.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Horowitz; his daughters, Diana (Richard) England, and Laura (Warren) Simon; his step-children, Joanne Beren (Jeffrey Arbeit), Susan Beren (Rodrigo Pizarro), and David Beren; his grandchildren, Justine, Alexander, and Natalya England, David and Alexandra Simon, and Samuel and Nathaniel Arbeit; his brother-in-law, John (Diane) Baum; his sister-in-law, Patricia Baum; his nieces and nephews, Emily Baum (Josh Burke), David Baum, and Matthew (Deborah) and Katherine Baum; his great nieces and nephews, Alexander and Charlotte Burke, Beatrice and Max Baum; his cousin, Astrid (Ron) Namaroff; and his former sister-in-law, Jane (Stan) Rodbell. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Claire and David Horowitz, and his brother-in-law, Charles Baum.

Sylvia, I want to express my condolences to you and your family on Herb's death. I didn't know Herb well, but Marilyn spoke often of how wonderful she thought he was, and the beautiful obituary is consistent with all that she said. I'm sorry that I never had the chance to know him better. Christine Lee
