Como - James R. 67 It is with profound sorrow that we, the Como family, announce the passing of James Reynold Como, beloved father to James Como, Jr., and brother to Deborah Como Frutko, Francine Shover, Warren Como and John Como. He was born in Baltimore and made the city his home. He will be remembered for his kindness, his wonderful sense of humor and for his compassion to those less fortunate. He leaves behind a large extended family and many dear friends. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017, between the hours of 3 to 6 p.m. at Matthews 1600, located at 1600 Frederick Avenue, Catonsville, MD 21228.

Warren, When I saw you today at St. Charles Church, I could see that as you mentioned Jim's death, it was an emotionally difficult matter for you to discuss. I will remember you, Jim and the family in my prayers as you deal with this loss. May God give you strength during this time of sorrow.

I've just heard from my sister Laurie about Jim. My life has been enriched beyond words from our relationship, our love. He was thirty-three when we met, James only a very little boy. I will always remember Jim, he dated my sister Jayne deSesa, and I felt such warmth from him. He was a sweetheart, and I wanted Jayne to marry him. I particularly loved his son, what a beautiful boy. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. I will always remember him, my prayers and thoughts go out to his family.

I was saddened of the news about Jim Como's passing. I met him at the jail in 1980. He was a friend of my sister Paulette Harris. When I began working at the jail, I used to get drafted to work forced overtime a lot. Jim would always offer to get lunch for me. We became such good friends and I used to think he was the "Coolest Dude" ever. So sorry for your loss. But, no that your loved one made a difference.

I am not sure if you are seeing this twice- in that I thought I hit the right buttons?

I have always missed Jim. From 1977 until 97 we were best buddies, on and off the job. Together we developed the agency of Offender Aid and Restoration at the Baltimore City Jail, where Jim helped thousands of inmates not only get out of jail but get their lives together. He was a Social Program Manager.

He was a brilliant tactician of the criminal justice system and maneuvering in City and then State government (which did not necessarily treat us kindly).

We were best buddies at the office and off the job in Charles Village and at the Mt. Royal Tavern.

I liked to stereotype Jim, along with his father, as the Sicilian Don- a wise guy always ready with a quip; not sure I could have made it without his companionship.

Like his brothers, he was a very good lacrosse player (at goalie) and we also became great soccer fans. I will never forget watching Italia win the World Cup in the 80's at the Como household. Forever the Azurri!!!

Did you know that Jim was a stand in for Al Pacino (the famous actor) when they made the movie "And Justice for All" here in Baltimore.

Jim had a ready laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. He was compassionate, well-read and I enjoyed conversing with him about the merits of single malt Scotch and red wine. My condolences to the family-he is gone way too soon.

Hello I truely understand why you want heartfelt prayers.That is why I love the prayers of King David who poured out his heart to God when he was in distressed.Notice how he prayed to God at Ps 61:1-2 there is says,Hear O God,my cry for help.Do pay attention to my prayers.From the ends of the earth I will cry out to you.When my heart is in despair lead me onto a rock that is higher than I am.May the God of peace be with you all.

Warren and John,
I was saddened to read about Jimmy. I will always fondly remember him in the goal at Church Lane. He will be missed by all those who knew his kind spirit. Remember all that he did with you and for you, and he will live in your heart forever.
