Jane Lafferty Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jane Frances Lafferty, nee Reiter. On Saturday, September 20th 2025, Jane succumbed to the trauma suffered in a car accident near her home in Seven Lakes, North Carolina.

A Mercy High School graduate of the class of 1972, Jane graduated from Sinai Hospital School of Radiology in 1974 and worked at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Towson, MD for her entire 30 year radiology career. Active at St. Isaac Jogues parish in Parkville, MD, Jane taught CCD and was a eucharistic minister. An avid golfer, Jane was an active member of the ladies golf leagues at Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Baltimore. She even worked with the ground crew staff to beautify the course. Jane frequently enjoyed karaoke after her shifts in the emergency x-ray department. She was a talented seamstress in her spare time, and loved making clothes for herself and her family.

After suffering a major stroke in 2004, Jane fought diligently to regain her abilities to walk, talk, golf, sew, and dance. She was a long-term participant and volunteer in the adaptive golf program at Kernan Hospital. She also volunteered to support recent stroke patients at the hospital, giving them encouragement as they began their rehabilitation process. Her love of dancing included country line dancing with the Country Pride Dancers in Maryland and line dancing with the Southern Soul Dance Group in Pinehurst in North Carolina. Jane and her husband Charlie moved to Seven Lakes, North Carolina in 2014.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Charles Neal Lafferty, her son Neal Vincent Lafferty, her daughter and son-in-law, Allison Lafferty Mulvey and William Mulvey. She had three grandchildren: Ian Lafferty, Kaila Mulvey, and Hunter Mulvey. Jane is also survived by her brother Robert Reiter and his wife Lowrie, her sisters Mary Anne Reiter DeSimone and husband Paul and Karen Reiter Karwacki and husband Gene, and by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great friends in both Maryland and North Carolina. She inspired many people with her determination, enthusiastic spirit, and unique optimism regardless of any challenge.

A memorial service will be held at St. Isaac Jogues at 9215 Old Harford Rd, Baltimore, MD 21234 on Monday, October 27, with visitation from 10:00am to 11am and Mass at 11:00am.

Interment will be at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium, MD 21093 immediately following the service at St. Isaac Jogues.

In lieu of flowers, our family requests contributions be made to the Trauma and Critical Care Fund at UNC Hospitals (305543). Gifts can be made online here: give.unc.edu/tribute/Jlaffert or via check and mailed to the address below:

Jane and I worked together at SJMC for many years. She didn´t let her struggles stop her. I also knew her brother-in-law, Paul (Paulie) deSimone. My prayers are with Charlie and the family. She will be missed.

What a multi-talented, determined and positive lady Jane was! I always looked forward to working shifts with her, both for her work ethic and her willingness to share her handicraft talents during any spare time we had. I remember two Christmas crafts in particular which she taught me- how to make the decorated yarn wreaths that were so popular back in the 80's and how to make macrame green, white, and red candy canes, tree ornaments which I still have.
May she rest in peace.
