With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dr. Jeffrey Blair Hazard, Esq on February 26, 2024. Born on August 27, 1951 to Edward and Doris Hazard of
Lutherville, MD, Jeff spent most of his life in the northern Baltimore area. In 2021, Jeff and his wife of 45 years, Susan (nee Michno), settled near their grandchildren in
Lewes, DE for some salt air.
Jeff held many jobs over the years, ranging from attorney and business owner to hot pepper tester at McCormick & Co, where he was also a CPA. He taught at many prestigious colleges and universities. A man of few words but many accolades, Jeff held multiple graduate degrees, including a J.D and a PhD. He spent a great deal of time working with residents and families at Stella Maris and Villa Maria, all pro-bono.
Jeff owned and operated multiple businesses. Key Oldsmobile and Key Leasing were landmarks on York Rd in Towson for 20 years. He owned the Maryland franchise of Colortyme Rent to Own. His real passion was teaching; something he started out of college and continued for more than 40 years. In addition to graduate level, he taught 5th grade CCD for years and helped dozens of incarcerated non-violent offenders complete their GEDs.
A self-taught handyman with a talent for woodworking, he was always up for a new project. He enjoyed golf; both playing and watching. He liked to travel and was thrilled when the family made it to the Grand Canyon. He liked to grill, even in the rain, and enjoyed trying new foods. A naval orange lover, his girls have fond memories of him peeling them fruit, even once they were far too old to need his help.
Jeff loved his dogs, cat and his fish. Animals took to him – his calm and kind spirit was perfect for a best friend. He worked with multiple rescues and loved fostering.
More than anything, Jeff loved his girls: his wife Susan, and his daughters, Megan and Whitney. He is survived by Megan, her husband John Stack and their three children Evie, Ellie and Graham, as well as Whitney, her husband Dave Samaroo and their son, Pierce. A beloved Granddaddy, father and husband, his smiling blue eyes are watching over us.
Jeff will be remembered for his love of knowledge, his philanthropy and generosity, and his sense of humor. His handyman skills and cream of crab soup will be missed. His legacy of kindness, strength and unwavering love will continue to inspire those who knew him.
