I would like to let the family know how Joel influenced my life. I was in his constitutional law class at the University of Wisconsin. I graduated in 1966. I went on to Harvard Law School where I graduated mcl and an editor of the Law Review in 1969. Joel was one of only two teachers who I feel really inspired me in my academic career.

I knew Joel through his parents, Joe and Selma, who were close friends of my parents, Abraham and Ruth Becker, in the 1960s. They were very proud of his academic achievements and shared stories of his accomplishments with my parents. My sincere condolences to Gene who I remember and Joel's family whom I have unfortunately not met. Again individual who grew up on the UWS in the 1950s gone. My sincere condolences.

Sending best wishes to your family in this difficult time. It was my privilege to have Professor Grossman for two constitutional law courses as an undergraduate at the University of WisconsinMadison. He was a captivating teacher and brought humor where possible. I am grateful to have learned about the foundations of our democracy and rule of law from him and those lessons are more salient now than they were then. His legacy will continue in his students for many years.
