Joseph Henry POTTER

Joseph Henry Potter passed on to glory in the living arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Even though he never smoked, he died from complications of lung cancer due to an epidermal growth factor receptor gene mutation. He was loving husband to Merle Potter of 57 years and shared in raising their three children, Joseph R. Potter, John D. Potter, and Veronica J. Holden. Joseph married Rose who Mr. Potter considered as another daughter and has two children, Amber and Rachel. John has two children, Dylan and Johli. Veronica married Richard Holden who Mr. Potter considered as another son. He set high expectations for his family members and was committed to helping them find their purpose and charter their course. He is also survived by his dear brother Donald and his wife Patricia, while his brother John predeceased him. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Baltimore, he spent a majority of his life traveling between Baltimore, Washington, DC and Ocean City. Mr. Potter had a notable career as an Auditor with the General Accounting Office, a Federal agency in Washington. During his GAO career, he reviewed the activities of eight major agencies including the market regulations programs of the Security and Exchange Commission to the inventory controls of the Department of Defense.

Because of his expertise in Forensic Auditing, and his unquestioned integrity and objectivity, he was assigned by GAO management to work with the Democratic staff of the U.S. Senate during their investigation of Bill and Hilary Clintons' Whitewater real estate investments, the U. S. House Republican staff who were investigating mismanagement of the Teamsters union pension funds and the House Ethics Committee staff investigation into the mismanagement of a Congressman's campaign funds.

After his retired from the GAO, he worked for 15 Summers as a Maryland District Court Commissioner in Ocean City, where he determined the conditions of release and bail amounts of persons arrested by the 11 law enforcement agencies in Worcester County during his 11:00 P.M. to the 7:00 A.M shift.

Mr. Potter was energetically involved in his community activities, having served in numerous officer positions. In these activities, he was fiercely independent in his judgement, scrupulously fair and totally unintimidated by power and social snobbery. He walked with faith and courage, leaving a wake of good will behind him while seeking and treading the right path. He will be missed.

On Sunday, May 2, 2021 relatives and friends will gather at Kaczorowski Funeral Home, P.A., 1201 Dundalk Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21222, with viewing times from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Funeral Mass on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 6400 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Md. 21224, at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 6515 Boston Street, Baltimore, Md. 21224.

The staff of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center cared for Mr. Potter during his long illness.
