Karl Avellar Obituary

Mr. Karl Brecc Avellar, of Ellicott City Maryland, passed away August 28, 2025, at his home. He was 92. Born at home on May 12, 1933 in Provincetown Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Walter Eugene Avellar and Margaret Ellen (nee O'Donnell) Abel, and the stepson of the late Sidney J. Abel. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Sue Ellen (nee Packett). Karl experienced a classic childhood in the small town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, moving to New York City with his mother during World War II. They later moved to Fairfax County, Virginia where he attended high school and was an aspiring baseball player. Karl served in the US Air Force as an electronics technician and flight simulator operator. After his service, he attended George Washington University where he studied electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for 32 years at Westinghouse Corporation where he developed great friendships. Karl created many memories while enjoying vacations as a family, volunteering as a little league coach, he was an avid golfer, an accomplished and award-winning artist, and travelled the world with Sue. Karl is survived by his loving wife Sue, his sister Leslie (Dennis) and his children Brecc (Corey), Kurt, and Ellen (Roy) and by his grandchildren, Izabelle, Eleanor, Alexa, Alan, Margaret and William and great-grandchildren Avery, Everly, Xander, Audrey, and Atlas, and his nieces and nephews: Amy, Hailey, Lacey and Codie, and Jeff, Sheryl, Cindy, Kim, John, and Mark. A Celebration of Life will be held at 9704 Riverside Circle, Ellicott City on Saturday, October 18 from 2 to 5. For more information and to respond, please contact Brecc Avellar.
