Dear Waters-Bey Family. I participated this year in the "Mindful Memorial Day 2015" Project and was given the honor of being mindful of Staff Sergeant Waters-Bey's sacrifice and the sacrifice of his family. I wore his name around my neck for the Rolling Thunder demonstration this year. He is not forgotten and his service remains something to be valued by all Americans.

As I read the words written by this Marine's young son, I was reminded once more that no matter how much years pass, there remains an empty space that was once filled by the presence of a husband, a father or a friend. That loss is the more keenly felt when we stop to think about everything that this young Dad will have missed since his death in 2003. His son has had to grow up without his loving guidance, but hopefully the love and support of his Mom and his family, along with the many words written on the site, will be of comfort to him. Kenneth, remember that not only was he your Dad, he was also a United States Marine - be proud of all that he accomplished, and live your life to the very best of your abilities, as he would wish.

I can't begin to imagine your pain as a result of the loss of Kendall. I grew up in a close-knit family with six brothers and sisters. When my baby brother died several years ago, I remember my dad saying that NOTHING can compare to losing a child! I thank God that He has "...wiped away all tears from Kendalls eyes..." and that Kendall "...will never know pain and sorrow again..."

On this, the fourth anniversary of that fateful day when Staff Sgt. Waters-Bey made the ultimate sacrifice, please know that he and his family are in my thoughts this evening. My nephew, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder lost his life in Anbar Province, Iraq on 3/3/06, and has the honor of being buried next to Staff Sgt. Waters-Bey. I pray for both of them when I visit the cemetery, and somehow am comforted by knowing that as fellow Marines, they share a bond for all eternity that few others can understand. Although we will never forget them, I hope that as time goes on, both of our families will find the pain of their loss easier to bear. Semper Fi.

I know this is so late and even more, unusual. You don't know me but I too have a son named Kendall who served in extreme situations in the US military. There are no words that console the loss of a child/son, brother, husband, father, friend.

I think about kendall Waters-bey everytime I see his dad Michael come into my doctor's office where he is a patience, or everytime I talk to Mike on the phone. It's such a great loss to our country and everyone whose life he touched. My heart still goes out to Kendall's family after three years. Word's just can't say how upsetting it is for someone so young and have his whole life ahead of him to leave this world so soon. I was in Ken's platoon in Boot Camp. While he and I went on seperate paths after graduation - he going of to the Air Wing, myself to Field Artillery, he left impression enough with me that I remembered him and so was shocked when I heard the news that he had fallen. He was a big, gregarious guy in Boot Camp, a bit of a joker too. What I did want to share was one specific occurence that stays with me: At one point we were asked why we joined the Marine Corps. I can't remember what I said, but I remember his response: "to be a better man (or father) for my son". My sincerest condolences.

It has been over two years since, I attended the final military services for Staff Sgt. Kendall Waters-Bey. My son has been in the U. S. Army for eighteen years, he has served in Desert Storm and this time sent to Iraq. When I heard on the Baltimore news station about Sgt. Waters-Bey, I decided, I needed to be with his family to give my condolences. My thoughts continue to be with his family, may the love you had for your son, brother, father, husband and friend continue to keep you close. Because of the ultimate sacrifice that Sgt. My heart felt condolences to Staff Sgt. Waters-Bey's family. After speaking with Kendall on numerous occasions, it was an honor to finally meet him for the first time at Camp Pendleton when he and my son deployed to Iraq. My son, Sgt. Derrick Dickerson served under Staff Sgt. Waters-Bey at Camp Pendleton. Their relationship was special for many reasons to me.
It was truly an honor to have met such a wonderful man, father, brother and son who will be missed.

He was my closest friend. If my family would see me, automatically they would ask about him. They loved him just as much as they loved me. We were each others' shadows from the day we met. Nowadays, I just walk in the shadow of his wings. RIP.
