Loraine Lobe Obituary

Loraine L. Lobe (nee Lazarus), of Pikesville, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025. She was born Feb 3, 1921 in Baltimore, Md. She was the youngest daughter of Morton L. Lazarus and Loraine N. Lazarus. She grew up on Brooks La. with, who would turn out to be, life long friends in the Eutaw Pl. neighborhood. She graduated from Park School and Mt. Saint Agnes College. She married Alex "Sandy" Katzenberg, Jr. in 1944 and had two children Barbara M. Katzenberg and Alex S. Katzenberg, III. After Sandy's long illness and death in 1955, she was fortunate to marry an old friend and widower Harry R. Lobe, who brought his daughter Nancy Lobe, to the marriage. The family thrived as one large family of five. While Harry worked, Loraine volunteered at New Directions for Women and the Sinai Hospital Auxiliary. She worked at Sinai for over 40 years, the last position at Sinai Ophthalmology where she retired in her 90's.

Always a family person first, she was always talking on the telephone or visiting her out of town sisters, Mae Fischler and Nathalie Klaus and families. While in Baltimore, she had family dinners to include both Katzenberg and Lobe extended families. She stayed in constant touch with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would speak to her nieces and nephews along with childhood friends of her children at least monthly.

She was a regular attendee at the Colts & Orioles games and watched the Orioles and Ravens on TV religiously. She played mahjong regularly at the Suburban Club for over 40 years. The staffs at One Slade Condo and Suburban Club were always there for her. Her caregivers in recent months were especially attentive.

Two weeks ago she was enjoying a VO at her 104th Birthday with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. As Loraine would say, "Life is short, enjoy and make the most of everyday."

She is survived by her children, Barbara M. Katzenberg, Nancy L. (Jeffery) Rosenbaum, and Alex S. (Carla) Katzenberg, III; grandchildren, Stuart Katzenberg (Emily Scarr), Andrew (Alana) Katzenberg, Brian (Courtney) Katzenberg, Emily Rosenbaum (Aaron) Miller, and Daniel Rosenbaum (Larissa Stiglich); and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Harry R. Lobe and Alex "Sandy" S. Katzenberg, Jr.; siblings, Nathalie L. (Philip) Klaus and Mae L. (Stuart) Fisher; and parents, Morton and Loraine Lazarus.

Services at Sol Levinson's Chapel, 8900 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208, on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at 1:30 pm. Interment Baltimore Hebrew Berrymans Lane Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
