Margaret Sydnor Obituary

Born in Baltimore, Margaret Mary (Peggy) Sydnor grew up in Hamilton and Catonsville. A graduate of The Institute of Notre Dame and Loyola College, she worked for many years in the Baltimore County public school system as a children's librarian, a career she announced upon graduation from high school she wished to pursue. Her life-long love of books (one of her earliest memories was of sitting in her mother's lap being read to) may have been surpassed only by her devotion to the plays of Shakespeare. She took great delight in introducing young readers to Shakespeare and is the creator of Shakespeare's Spirited Women, a dramatic work staged with great success locally. For Peggy, summer meant trips to England: theater in London and Stratford-Upon Avon and classes at Cambridge. She would begin the new school year re-energized to share what she had learned with students and colleagues alike. Upon retirement, she became a regular student of humanities classes at The Community College of Baltimore County; attended the theater in Baltimore, Washington, and New York; and continued to return to her beloved Cambridge in summer. She served on the board of The Children's Theater Association. She is survived by her sister, Laura Elizabeth Sydnor. Friends may call at St. Joseph Monastery Parish, Old Frederick Road & Monastery Ave. on Friday from 10 - 11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment in New Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humanities Fund of The Community College of Baltimore County Foundation-Essex Campus. Checks should be made out to CCBC Foundation, 7200 Sollers Point Road, Baltimore, MD 21222 with Peggy's name written in the Memo field of the check. Arrangements by the family owned David J. Weber Funeral Homes, PA.

It was wonderful to work with Peggy on the board of Children's Theater Association. She had a great love of theater and knew so much about the field. She was such a lively mind. She will be missed.
