Mary Ditter

Mary Lenore Ditter (nee Wey) of Columbia, MD passed away on October 25, 2022 at Harmony Hall in Columbia. She was 89 years old. She was born on October 6, 1933 in Aurora, IL to the late Sam and Vera Wey.

Mary was an early pioneer of Columbia, MD, arriving in 1968 to settle in Longfellow. She was a backyard bird watcher who always had at least one bird feeder (usually more) to attract the birds to her balcony, and she often regaled the family with news of a hatched eaglet or chick from one of the many webcams she viewed online. She was an avid gardener who surrounded her home with an abundance of plants and flowers and helped her children plan and execute their gardens as they settled into new homes. Mary was a voracious reader and bridge-player. Her monthly bridge group included friends who had been meeting regularly for nearly five decades. She will be remembered by her many friends and coworkers from her years at Woodward & Lothrop and Kohl's.

Mary dedicated her young adult life to raising her family and volunteering in the Howard County school system. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her children, Jeff Ditter (Amy), Linda Pineo (Stuart), Michael Ditter (Lisa), and Susan Ditter (Corey), her grandchildren, McKenzie Ditter (Matt), Joseph Ditter, Stevan Ditter, Brighton Ditter, Isabel Pineo, Paige Ditter, and Astrid Kleine, and great grandson Tom Muirhead.

Mary is survived by her sister, Marcia Nussbaumer. She was predeceased in death by her sister, Jeanne Lopez and brother, David Wey.

Mary's friends are invited to join the family for a remembrance of her life on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 11:30 AM at the Robinson Nature Center, 6692 Cedar Lane, Columbia, MD 21044. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Robinson Nature Center in her memory would be appreciated.
