"Uncle" Matt, and "Aunt" Velma, as my brothers and I referred to them, were our neighbors in Maryland since I was born. We did not have relatives living close by, so I guess we sort of "adopted" each other. I remember many a time walking the little wooded path between our homes to sit in their kitchen to talk and get a snack. As we got older, we would house sit and take care of Tippy and Mittens for them. We loved them and were so sad when they retired to Florida, yet they always remembered to send Birthday wishes and Christmas cards our way for many, many years. They were wonderful people and we miss them.

In addition to being an apparently beloved math teacher at Hereford, he was an astute business man, well respected in the Maryland Credit Union movement starting in 1953 and continuing thru the 60s, and 70s. I grew up as a child knowing Mr. and Mrs. Tress thru credit union venues and personal visits at our house. Math was my least favorite subject, but with that said, it was apparent that Mr. Tress loved teaching, math and interactions with his students. I wish he had family living now to know how well-respected he was in both fields.

I can remember being taught Trig & Analyt by Mr. Tress and found it interesting, and the time spent in his class was good. Kudos to Mr. Tress for founding the credit union to benefit the teachers. It would seem that many students didn't realize the quality of the man and could only focus on the disciplinary measures that he could mete out.

Mr. Tress was an excellent teacher and my favorite Math teacher at Hereford High School. His energetic presentation helped keep me focused and interested in whatever he was teaching each day. It was obvious to me that he loved teaching Math and he wanted all of his students to want to learn more. What a dedicated teacher. He really made a difference in my understanding of different concepts of Math!

Mr. Tress was my favorite teacher at Hereford High School because Math was my favorite subject and he taught it. A wonderful teacher who encouraged me.

Mr. Tress taught math at Hereford High School when the Class of 1956 attended, and even now, when reunions are held, classmates remember his dedication to his profession, and the support he showed the students. Our appreciation was such that we dedicated our yearbook to him as a small way to let him know he touched each of us. Rest in peace, Mr. Tress

Matt Tress, in 1953, was the founding President of TABCO Federal Credit Union. Original assets were $5.00, contained in a cigar box in Mr. Tress' house. TABCO FCU, now known as First Financial Federal Credit Union, grew to $1 million in assets by 1963. TABCO was originally created to serve Baltimore County School employees. The Baltimore County schools still provide a large portion of FFFCU's membership. Mr. Tress was well-respected in the Maryland Credit Union movement, in addition to being a math teacher at Hereford High School.

I have fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Tress (Velma and Matt) from my father's work with the Maryland Credit Union League. M/M Tress were dear friends of my parents, Erma and S.J. Domenick, through my father's career with the MD Credit Union League. Mr. Tress taught Math for years at Hereford High School, and was actively involved in the Maryland credit union movement. He was well respected. He and Velma took wonderful trips to Hawaii - they always had wonderful slides to show. He is a fond memory from my childhood.
