Michael Nibali Obituary

Michael Alan Nibali (Mike), age 77, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2023. Born September 29, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas to the late Sidney Sebastian Nibali and the late Marjorie Genevieve Nibali (nee Wright). Survived by siblings Diane Eney (Bob), Richard Nibali, Barb Nibali, Philip Nibali (Chris), Jim Nibali and Jeff Nibali. Predeceased by siblings Steve Nibali and Ken Nibali. Also survived by several generations of nieces & nephews. Mike spent his early childhood in Victory Villa in Middle River where his parents moved after the war. In 1955 they moved to a large house in Catonsville. He enjoyed the many family cats and dogs and had a special gentle touch with small wounded wildlife. He delivered both Baltimore newspapers and fondly recalled the workout he got pedaling his bike on the hills of Ellicott City and Oella. Mike had a lifelong interest in cars and trucks, working on many different ones he had over the years, especially some unique European models. After high school he earned an AA degree in Engineering at CCC. He enlisted in the Army serving for 3 years in the late 1960s, including a one year tour in Vietnam. He left the service as a Staff Sergeant. He started working at the Social Security Administration in 1972 and retired in 2005 as a Computer Specialist. While working, he dabbled in local real estate, admired by many for his acumen and bold undertakings including owning at various times the old St. Mary's Seminary in Ilchester, the old Ellicott City elementary school and many smaller properties in the Ellicott City area where he settled in the early 1980s. Mike loved buying and selling at auctions and was an avid collector in many fields. He found joy in discovering new items, learning and making new friends with shared interests. Mike enjoyed many kinds of music. He loved eating and could consume an impressive amount of food. He especially enjoyed steamed crabs the larger the better. Mike had a deep booming voice, a ready laugh, and a kind and generous spirit. He was loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed. Services and burial are private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Helping Up Mission or the American Diabetes Association, in memory of Mike Nibali.
