Patricia Stephens Obituary

Patricia (Patsey) Ann Stephens (nee Roberts), 87, wife of the late Clinton P. Stephens, Sr., mother of Lisa A. Stephens and the late Clinton P. Stephens, Jr., passed away in the early evening on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in the loving presence of her daughter, niece and caregiver. Patsey was born on November 26, 1928 to parents Gertrude and Frank Roberts. Her beloved brother, Frank Roberts, Jr., is also deceased. Both were lifelong Baltimore residents. Patsey was a 1944 Friend's School graduate. As a child, her brother constructed a multistory tree house behind their Roxbury Place home. Patsey was known as "Queen of the Treetops." She was an avid sports player and competitor, excelling in badminton and tennis, winning a mixed doubles world championship in badminton with her husband, a Father/Daughter national championship in tennis with her Dad, as well as many other titles. Patsey raised her family with devotion, loved her friends dearly, and devoted her life to creatively helping others however, wherever and whenever help was needed. Her generosity was deep and gracious. She engaged her passion for the stock market throughout her life, and loved to travel and play bridge. A memorial service celebrating Patsey's life, followed by a reception, will be held for family and friends at the Blakehurst Retirement Facility, located at 1055 W. Joppa Road, Towson, on Tuesday, August 9th, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Patricia Stephen's name to Smile Train, 41 Madison Ave., 28th floor, New York, New York, 10010.

I was so sorry to hear of Patsey's death. I only learned of it in October this same year. She was a wonderful person, great company and a source of smiles and jokes whenever we met. I owe her so much regarding my own badminton skills as Patsey was always willing to give me practice, not apparently worrying that the young pretender might just overtake her. As I did. Without her quality of badminton to continually aim for, my progress would have been far slower and I never forgot what kindness she showed me in that respect.
