Philip Ratcliffe Obituary

RATCLIFFE, JR. , Philip E. Philip E. Ratcliffe, Jr . died on Sunday, November 22, 2009. He was 76 years old. Mr. Ratcliffe was born on May 20, 1933 in Baltimore, MD to Philip Eulon and Isabelle Young Ratcliffe. After graduating in 1951 from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and serving in the US Army, Mr. Ratcliffe began his career in business and real estate development. He founded the Metropolitan Maintenance Company and has been the owner of the Maryland Management Company for over 39 years. Additionally, he was instrumental in developing and funding the Entrepreneurial Studies Institute at Anne Arundel Community College. Mr. Ratcliffe had many professional affiliations, including the National Association of Homebuilders, Anne Arundel County Association of Realtors, Omega Tau Rho and the Institute of Real Estate Management. He was also involved with BOMA as the director, and with the Baltimore Chapter of IREM and National IREM. He has served as Chairman of the Institute of the Journal of Property Management and been a consultant to local and national real estate firms. Mr. Ratcliffe loved hunting, boating, and was an avid RC modeler. Philip E. Ratcliffe is survived by his wife, Carole Filsinger Ratcliffe, his son, Philip E. Ratcliffe III, and his sister, Isabelle Mallonee.
A private service and internment will be held. A Memorial Celebration in honor of Mr. Ratcliffe's life will be held on January 16, 2010 between 12:00 P.M and 4:00 P.M at his residence. In lieu of flowers, gifts in the memory of Philip E. Ratcliffe, Jr. may be directed to support Dr. Daniel Laheru's cancer research: Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, One Charles Center, 100 N. Charles Street, Suite 234, Baltimore, MD 21201.

Although I didn't personally know Phil as well as others, his passing touched me deeply. Whenever Phil visited our office in Denver, he always told a joke or two to brighten our day. He will be missed by our office.
