A chip off the old block. His father, George Phillips. The apple of his mother´s eye Geri Phillips. 10 years older than me, and to a degree a namesake. I knew him since I was a boy.
Selfless service, thinking of the needs of others, always positive, a man those in his many circles turned to for leadership. That is the Phil Phillips I knew and admired.

Phil's Dad, George (and his Mom, Geri), and my Dad, Virgil, and my Mom (Mary Anne) all grew up together in WV. Having moved to MD a few years earlier, George convinced my Dad to move to MD in the late '50s. Both of them WWII veterans and both had long careers in Baltimore County education. Phil was exactly 10 years older than me and when we would visit them he would play with me on the "big" hill behind their house, and in later years take me along, like a little brother, to see what he was up to at the fire station. A paramedic he was. Phil becoming a highly respected and well know physician really no surprise. He always had a heart for people in general and the afflicted in particular .. and he knew we were all afflicted, in some way or another. As grown men we served in the Army National Guard at the same time and he brought to that responsibility the same sense of commitment, compassion and meticulous diligence that he brought to every aspect of his life. The day of his funeral in Glyndon was heart rending to say the least. But we should remember, it is really about the "dash." That little hyphen between the date Phil was born in 1950 and the date he died in 2008. Because that "dash" is the life, the full life, the life of service to others that he lived. We should all have such a glorious "dash" as does Phil Phillips.

To George and Gerry: Woody and I were saddened to learn of Phil's passing. As one of Phil's '68 classmates, I remember his caring and compassionate manner in treating my grandmother. To her, there was no other doctor like Phil. Please know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. May God continue to strengthen and comfort you.

The medical field and the fire service has lost a very dedicated person. My late cousin Joe, Phil and myself spent many hours serving our community protecting life and property. However my most cherished memory of Phil will come from June 18th, 1977 when he honored us by his band playing at our wedding. Many of our friends that attended still remember the the party atmosphere that Phil and his band created that day.
Phil rest in piece. You will always be in our memories.

Doc Phillips was one of those rare individuals, that once you met him, whether you realized it then or not, you would never forget him. He always spoke to you and made you feel that he had known you forever. Each one of us will carry a piece of Doc with us in our hearts, but that piece won't be big enough to fill the void that was created when he left us.
To all the family . . . Peace be with you, Phil lives on in your hearts and in your souls until such time that you are reunited again.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I met with "Doc" frequently before my retirement from the MSP. He was a passionate advocate for the physical and mental health of the Troopers whom he treated like family. Likewise, we thought of him as a member of our "family" and will miss his counsel and his compassion for all of his coworkers. He was a consumate gentleman and an outstanding physician. His loss will be felt by all who new him. You and yours are in our thoughts and in our prayers.

Mr and Mrs Phillips and Sandy - Just heard about Phil and I am so very, very sorry. He was certainly a part of my Glyndon childhood as "Sandy's little brother". I have followed his accomplishments through the years and heard what a popular doctor he has become. This is hard to comprehend,I'm sure. I wish I could be with you this week to share my happy memories of the Phillips family and hug each of you. You will be in my constant thoughts and prayers as you move through these sad days. Much love, Midge Wilson Culp

I met Dr Phillips briefly when I served in the MD Army National Guard. I went to his office at the police barracks to recruit him. I've always remembered his name. I have mentioned him to State Troopers who come into the Home Depot where I now work. They all knew him. He has touched many lives I am sure he will be dearly missed. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Our Dear loving friends, We have dealt with many challenges in our live’s but this is hurting our heart’s so much, we pray for your peace during this time. Phil was truly an inspiration, friend and mentor to Jody and me from our childhood days in Glyndon through recent contacts professionally. His genuine compassion and understanding overflowed with everything he touched. We’ve shared many personal and professional experiences with him throughout our entire married and professional lives. We know that God has taken him to a better world and pray for all of the hearts that are hurting, that they have peace in remembering the good things he did. We will be forever grateful for the blessing’s of Phil’s kindness in our lives and know he is with our creator.
