Dear Gary, Julie, Dena, and Shannon:
My name is Karen Hartz and our family lived in Columbia for many years before we moved to Highland in 1987. My husband Steve and I were members of the same babysitting co-op as your family. I remember Rhea as a truly wonderful and relaxed mother to her three young daughters and I loved babysitting in your home. For one thing, it gave me the chance to view your mom's artistic tole painting talents and sewing accomplishments. Yours was a home filled with lots of love.
Gary, Steve and I remember you as a handsome, likeable, intelligent entrepreneur and loving father to your girls. And you were somehow involved with Parks and Rec, hockey, or something like that, no?
I don't know much about young onset Alzheimer's disease and still don't understand how it contributes to one's early demise. What I do know is that Rhea left this world too soon. I'm so sorry for your loss and do hope the sun will once again shine for each of you.

OK, it is time to focus on what Rhea was really all about, fun and joy. When Gary and Dave were both in the military, we had the opportunity to visit each other when stations permitted. When we were at Newport and Glisans were in Mass. they came down to visit when we had a Navy Choristers concert. We got so excited about getting to the concert on time we forgot to dog-proof everything, and my dog threw up in Rhea's suitcase. While that was not fun, it was an entertaining story for us all. Then we got into a giggling fit and neither Rhea nor I could explain to our dumbfounded spouses what the heck was so funny. I still don't know.
Sorry kids, this was way before your time. Love, Kay

Dear Gary and Family--For the Christian, passing through death is really a birth into a new life and a better world. Those who are left behind should not grieve as if there were no hope. Life is changed, not taken away. Our dear ones live on in a world beautiful beyond anything we can imagine. The await the day when they will welcome us with joy.
Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have such great memories of Rhea while we were growing up together and then in later years when you would all visit Grayling. My best to all of you......Joe Wakeley

Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are trusting God to simply be God as you go through this challenging time. Make sure you take time to grieve and know that it is ok to do so. Talk to God and let Him know how you feel. Then allow Him to provide comfort and healing. Know that God loves and cares for you, as we do too.
With love,
